the warm weather has finally arrived and it’s the perfect opportunity to head out on the bike for an adventure but dressing for the warm weather can be a little bit tricky and well some of us can get it very wrong roasting hank i’m not feeling too good i’m not surprised so in this video we’re going to show you what not to wear in the warm weather [Music] i’m melting like this ice cream when heading out on the bike it is a constant struggle to get your clothing choice just right and there’s nothing worse than overheating and getting too hot when you’re overheating your power can really drop and you can get so dehydrated from all the sweat you lose yeah and being on the bike it means you don’t have access to your wardrobe so what you choose in the morning is basically what you’re going to wear throughout the day and trust me we’ve made the mistakes in the past so this video is for those of you so you don’t make the same mistakes we have man really come on hank oh god damn it [Music] let’s start from the top shall we an arrow helmet with no ventilation is not what you want to be wearing when the weather is like this now i can confirm i’m absolutely sweltering inside this helmet there’s literally no air man on no i’m not surprised you want to wear a helmet like this one with lots of holes and ventilation so all the air can get in and help cool you down yeah now it does sound obvious doesn’t it to wear a ventilated helmet but actually you can get so caught up in wanting to go fast then you take this over that but let me tell you comfort is absolutely key and sometimes overheating is actually exactly what you don’t want for performance so in uh if you want speed comfort is best [Music] visibility is extremely important when on the bike and especially when the sun is shining down into your eyes and you’re squinting it can be quite hard to see what’s coming up in front of the road so always remember to take your trusty glasses with you and make sure to get some tinted ones as well that’d help with the sun and it can be quite annoying when the little summer flies are out and they end up in your eyes so uh that’ll help with that as well i got bloody fly in my eye classic example [Music] now has to be said i do love a neck warmer like this one on those wintry days it’s absolutely perfect for keeping you nice and warm but on these summer warm days this is definitely not what you want i mean it’s constricting and you’re definitely overheat it’s also something to think about your overshoes and your gloves you don’t want to wear big heavy wintry gloves and long-fingered ones but other than that you want to wear some nice mitts i mean they protect your hands when riding the bike but also they protect your hands in the event of a crash and then moving on to your feet yeah take out the overshoes and go for your normal cycling shoes maybe even try some lightweight ones that are well vented that way you can keep your feet nice and cool too top tip for you right it’s about atomic you can get this off now oh hold on oh so much better [Music] a thick woolly base layer like this one is not what you want to be wearing when the weather is hot this will do the complete opposite to what you want it’ll absorb all your sweat it’ll get really heavy and you will cook like a chicken in a bag in the oven you want a nice light mesh base layer like this one it’ll wick away the sweat it’s breathable and it’ll keep you nice and cool and you might think that less layers the better when the weather’s hot but it’s always nice to have that extra layer in case you did forbid come off your bike and have a crush [Music] now man on it has to be said i do love the winter clothing you know the long sleeve gabbers the thermal tops the world jumpers and the big jackets but in these sunny warm temperatures this is just not the right thing yeah you’ve made a big mistake today haven’t you well hank if you are planning to do a lot of riding in this nice hot conditions then you might even want to invest in a summer specific jersey these are almost made of mesh-like materials they’re super thin really nice and breathable they don’t absorb any sweat and they help keep you cool and if you are in the market for a new jersey make sure to get one with a full zip as well it’s quite easy to keep cool on the downhill but when you go uphill it’s always nice to unzip the jersey get a bit more airflow in there you know what they say get the jersey flapping to keep the crowd clapping yeah they definitely say that also if you are going out early in the morning and it’s a little bit cooler why not pop a good old delay on and then when you get a bit hot midday just whip it off and put in your back pocket yeah i think i’ll take these tips in there i think i’m going to take this off hold on oh i’m dying [Music] i love bib tight span on i can tell i absolutely love bib types they keep you warm they keep you slightly dry they’ve got a fleece lining you know they’re perfect for wintery conditions well why are you wearing them today oh man i made it i made a drastic mistake here you have you definitely have but shorts i mean you haven’t really got that many options just don’t wear your lungs like hank has done but you can actually get summer shorts which again are made of like a mesh lining got panels on the side which are good options but yeah you don’t really want to be wearing woolly fleece blind lungs no this is not what you want right time to take them off um yeah maybe hide behind a hedge what why are you wearing them over your jersey as well what hold on i do i don’t want to be involved in this what don’t want to be involved hold on no i’m stuck now yeah yeah not my problem [Music] hank what what are you doing oh man i was just too hot right ready to go now you’re just gonna leave here ready you can’t leave your wardrobe there so as you can see i’m finally back into the clothing i should have been wearing when i started now i hope this video has given you some ideas and it’s helped you when the warm weather kicks in but let us know down in that comment section below if you have any of your own top tips for staying nice and cool in this hot weather and if you did enjoy this video make sure to give it a big thumbs up yeah and now time for an ice cream i reckon another ice cream well why not yeah it’s summer after all treat yourself

What are your top tips for staying cool in hot weather?
Hi Folks,
I love your shows. They're so informative & fun to watch..Just want to add that a good high SPF sunblock. We don't want some misbehaving cells stop us from cycling, do we? By the way, how come I don't notice any tan lines on any of you guys? I can notice a difference on my skin after a 20 min exposure. Which makes me think: Are you guys really cyclists? LOL..Cheers! – Ariston
Can all aero helmets do that?
I have cycled in 125 degree weather quite a few times..Long sleeve (thin white) shirt helps.. get it wet with cold water and wear it..
when it dries.. wet it ( and yourself) again with ice water.. drink alot of Gatorade.. I don't care what the 'experts' say.. it works to re-hydrate you.
Not my problem 🤣
It's all good, unless it gets like 32-35°C. At that temperature you're hot even in the thinnest clothes. Unfortunately, this temperature is normal in summer in my region.
Thanks for the tips! You guys CRACK ME UP!!
WATER…I commute not that long but hopefully more in the future.. About 20 miles a day for work, friends, shopping and the occasional pure bike ride…AND IN Arizona…. Water is so important even for someone not exerting themselves.. But more so for cyclists/commuters/whatever..might be a health tip but maybe should be top 3 for summer riding in general? My opinion
lol TL;DR don't wear cold weather clothes if its warm outside! I think this could've been reduced to a ~30 second video. "You wouldn't wear your coat in the full heat of summer now would you? Same applies to cycling. The End."
Watching this even though I live in Canada so I never have to worry about it being too warm. However if I ever end up in a more civilized area this might come in handy
2:05 glasses… me wearing a prescription glasses. how? 😂
As a Clydesdale MAMIL who can't tan, they usually tell me, "Zip it up, to keep the crowd from throwing up!"
Hello
I am Ravi
I am perfect man cycling race in India can I help me cycling race
I always wear long sleeves to protect my arms from the pitiless sunshine . . . and save money on sunblock. 🙂
I think Hank just likes to suffer! personally I cycle in shorts almost all year, but have found that a merino short sleeved jersey can be worn almost all year (in the UK) without getting too hot!
If anyone were to Actually were all of that in the summer… ….should they really be on a bike?
I think we have a new Hank challenge 🤔 changing clothes while remaining upright on a moving bike.
You see how I took out all those nasty loop holes?
I'd ditch the black jersey…
I wear winter clothing at all times 😁
These ppl just want ur money all u need is a bike everything else is unnecessary you spent all this money for gears and my $20 bike will 🏎 zoom right past you ✌️✌️
Wool is exactly what you want in warm weather. It is way more comfy than any other fabric, and as a bonus it doesn't smell. Why do everyone think that wool = warm?
This is so helpful
i live in the tropics, but i have lived in (south) germany & (northern) US before. if u thot the sun was fierce where u are, let me assure u, its NOTHING compared 2 the tropics! Manon could make a better example by choosing a light coloured helmet as well as light coloured clothes. Dark clothes in the tropics is a sure fire formula 2 get heat-stroke!
👍👍👍
: )
I like her 🙂
Lol Englishmen talking about hot weather like what 72 degrees😅
Thank you 🙏 so much
They are still wearing 2 top layers in summer 😂. The UK really is a thing. I cycle with an open shirt and very short shorts in the summer and still get really hot here in Spain.
Where can I get the Aero kit?
What about base layer for men when it's hot? Cycling shirt already looks very thin but I have no idea what to put under, something like Nike Pro shirt?
What about protecting from the sun I hate the cyclist tan 😬
I've been wearing thermal clothes in 30+ Celsius on my bicycle for over 7 years now . I average about 3500km a year . It's all about hydration and conditioning. Goggle says what I do is unsafe with no actual proof . I would like to see actual real time results and challenge science to actually give results. For examples , soldiers wear full combat clothes and gear in desert conditions, they are fine . So prove me wrong science 😊
So wear a cashmere sweater, long johns, and a down overcoat. Got it.
I've watched a lot of GCN videos, and this is the first one that I feel obliged to react to. Anyone who needs the ridiculous tips you provided could also benefit from videos detailing which way to face when sitting on a bike, and which way to turn the handlebars to turn left or right. Does anyone really need to be told not to wear long fleece-lined clothing in hot weather? How about some useful tips, like whenever you pass a water fountain, use the water to wet your outfit, resulting in a much cooler feeling for a while? I realize it's not technically part of "How to Dress", but there was nothing at all in that video that wasn't common sense. I know common sense isn't common enough, but I feel insulted that you thought these things needed to be pointed out
