I have a 2023 Cervelo Aspero with around 2000 miles on it all from this year. When I take the chain off and spin the cranks, it doesn’t feel very smooth and gets stuck when not touched.

My mtb and beater bike are much smoother so I’m wondering if something is wrong here. Do I need to replace my bottom bracket?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Is this normal

  1. Looks pretty smooth to me. I mean not like it’s a ceramic bottom bracket maybe the ones on your other bikes are just cleaner? Don’t think it’s anything to worry abt tho unless you hear or feel vibrations or sounds or anything

  2. Pull off the non-drive-side crank arm. There might be contact or some grit between the crank and the BB shell.

It could be dirt, it could be new and just needs some bedding in. Either way, nothing to worry about.

Its hard to tell from that, but if it were mine I’d take the crank out, check the bearings etc, then if all seems ok there, reassemble and carefully set the preload.
It could be a seal drag issue which you’ll feel when you check the bearings, or it could just have little much preload set.
