Hi guys.
I’m posting because after a few hours of searching and watching countless videos on the subject for a solution to my problem, I am still unsure about what to do.
Is it possible to use a threadless headset that will
accomodate a 1 inch outer diameter fork tube ?
I found that Ritchey make a 1 inch headset without a compression ring, but I want to be sure before purchasing it.
Let me know what you did if you were in the same situation as me !

You can’t just convert the headset you need to convert the fork as well. You will need a 1″ threadless headset plus a threadless fork.
There is an adapter to change out the quill stem but that’s just the stem.
There’s the “right” answer, there’s the wrong answer, and then there’s the “you can make it work” answer.
So, in the name of threading this needle:
A – What is the stack height of the Ritchey threadless headset you’re considering?
B – What is your head tube length?
C – What is your steerer length?
D – What is the length of the threaded section of your steerer?
If (A+B) < (C-D), then you may be able to hack this together…
You need a new fork.
You never want to be clamping the stem on the threads because the threads create a serious weak spot where the fork will eventually break.
They are not common now and truth be told it’s a long time I have seen one myself but 1″ threadless stems do exist.
You can’t just throw a threadless headset and stem on a threaded fork though you would need a fork with either an unthreaded steerer or a threaded one with sufficient unthreaded area to be able to cut it down
