Just picked up this frame and decided to build it up with a spare Shimano 7800 group set I have. Everything seems to fit with the exception of the front derailleur. The seat tube is quite large (36mm), and I can't seem to find any braze-on adapter clamps larger than 34.9mm. The adapter clamp that was on the frame when I bought it is a third-party unit that is meant for a 34.9mm seat tube…but it is way to tight and was cross threaded by the previous owner.

I can't find much info on the original group sets used on these bikes and I have no clue which adapter braket or front derailleur I should be using.

I'd love any insight into this if anyone knows more about the Opera (Pinarello) line, what they originally ran in terms of group sets, or if I can find a 36mm adapter bracket anywhere.

  1. Why was the adapter that came with it “too tight?” That’s probably the correct size but in the wrong place. Seems like the indent on the seat tube is designed to handle a 31.6.

  2. Looks like that bike would have originally come with Campagnolo Record, and a 2006 Campy catalog states that they made 32mm and 35mm braze-on adapters, so it’s probably meant to use a 35mm (34.9mm) clamp.

However, [this person](https://www.bikeforums.net/20979255-post37.html) seems to have run into the same problem you have, but I’m not sure if you’d be able to replicate his 3d-printed shim solution.
