My bike has an 2×8 Alfine, I am using the big (outer) sprocket most of the time, as here are nearly no hills to climb.
My old Hollowtech was installed with only one 1.8mm spacer on the right side (chain side).
After disassembly I noticed that the new Hollowtech II has a inner with of approx 67mm, about the same as the old one. Frame shell width is 68mm.
Do I really need three 2.5mm spacers (one on the left, two on the right side) as it is told on this Shimano information sheet?
Or should I only put some spacer(s) for an straight chain line?
Thanks for helping.

Road BBs with road cranks usually don’t need spacers, only MTB.
