Dernier grand rendez-vous par étapes avant les Mondiaux, le Tour de Grande-Bretagne s’est élancé ce mardi pour six jours de course intenses à travers le royaume. Comme la veille, un sprint massif était attendu à Stowmarket à l’issue d’une 2e étape de 169.3 km encore une fois totalement plate. Et malgré des conditions météorologiques très compliquées avec énormément de pluie tout au long de la journée (à l’exception d’un beau soleil à l’arrivée), le scénario prévu a bien eu lieu, avec une nouvelle victoire d’Olav Kooij ! Si le Néerlandais avait dû s’employer la veille, ce deuxième succès en deux jours n’a cette fois-ci souffert d’aucune contestation, le sprinteur de la Visma | Lease a Bike négociant parfaitement ce final pourtant étroit et sinueux avant de produire son effort aux 200 mètres pour finalement s’imposer avec plusieurs longuers d’avance sur ses rivaux.
