Hello, it’s Mamiko from GOROGORO KITCHEN. Today, we’re heading to the Foire de Chatou, the biggest flea market near Paris. All the vendors are professional dealers, so there are plenty of quality finds. We’d be happy if you could enjoy discovering what it’s like together with us. I’m excited. Oh, wow. -It looks so vibrant!
-Oh, that’s impressive! Where do we go in from? I think it’s this way. Isn’t it over there? We can’t get in from here. -Isn’t it here?
-Why don’t we ask that person? Maybe here… They’re not the ones. Who should we ask? I’m not sure… Well, I wonder how it’s going to be… maybe we shouldn’t go from this side? Oh, it’s a bike parking area. Yes. Alright, we’ve arrived at Foire de Chatou. I thought we came super early, but actually… not early at all. Wow, there’s so much stuff. Oh, yes, there are so many tables too. Amazing. So cool. Really, really cool. It’s like a furniture store here. Yes, totally, it’s amazing. Oh, I see. Amazing. -So cool.
-There’s really so much stuff. I wish there were some coffee tables. It’s mostly taller tables, isn’t it? Well, there’s tons to look at, so Mamiko, feel free to browse as you like, and Tsu-san will… Alright, let’s split up! Is that how it is? But seriously, everyone’s buying so fast we should’ve come earlier. But they told us this was the time to come, so… what does that mean? I totally don’t get it at all. Same. Wow. Look Mamiko, over here, this shop too. Whoa, amazing. So cute. That looks like the Louis XIV style furniture we have at home. That’s true, wow. Hello. Can I film your booth? Thank you. Amazing! Wow, these are real antiques! Beautiful chandeliers. -Aren’t those chandeliers amazing?
-Yes. Incredible. Amazing. I wonder if we can find mirrors here too. Yeah, they’re all pretty authentic pieces. There are some lovely chairs over here too. Look, Tsu-san, these are beautiful too. Oh, really, yes. I wonder if you can lie down on it… It’s pretty. How much is it? -How much?
-700 euros. -Well, of course, right?
-Yes, that makes sense. -Can’t complain.
-No. It’s wonderful. Yes. -Well, but nothing to buy, I guess.
-No. This is a small stand. Excuse-me. Is this hand-embroidered? Oh, Tsu-san, here’s something like a coffee table, but it’s not quite what we’re looking for. Tsu-san, look, there’s Gien here. Yes, really. Hello, Would it be okay if I film your shop for our YouTube channel? Ah, why not. But not your face, only the products. -Go ahead.
-Thank you. Do you want to sell my stock? Right? Yes, it really is Gien. The fabrics are quite lovely too. It’s small, but this shop is charming. There are so many wine glasses too. What time did it open? 9:30 isn’t late at all. There were already so many people. Hey, Tsu-san, this is the same as the one you have, see? Oh, yes. This is a cosmetics box that Tsu-san liked and bought before. Look at these glass photo stands, here. Hey, this must be rhubarb knife rests. Ah, yes! It looks like rhubarb! This looks like something from my grandma’s house. Right? Always one of those. It says “Louise” on it. Yes. This might be Baccarat or something. So this used to belong to Louise. Even the scale is pretty. Scale? Not scale? It’s a scale for letters, I think. Take a look — today’s flea market is huge, and there’s so much to see! But everything here is really high quality, -so it’s definitely worth a look.
-Yes. Ah, this stand looks like an interior shop. These people all seem like shop owners, right? -Of course they’re all professionals.
-Yes. Mamiko, calm down. Look, they’re selling really delicious-looking things too. Ah yes, this place has all kinds of food as well. -That looks like the chair you found before.
-Yes. But I once saw a similar new piece selling for €7,000. -So I thought maybe we should’ve bought that chair.
-See? I knew it. I really had a good eye, didn’t I? There’s just so much to see today. Mamiko still seems a bit overwhelmed. It’s amazing every shop feels so professional and has so many different things. Look at this lovely birdcage. Oh, yes. -It’s gorgeous, so beautiful.
-Yes. These people have their tongues out it’s funny. Only one of them does. Oh, just one. Ah, a beauty mirror for me. You already bought one the other day, Tsu-san. Seems Mamiko still hasn’t found something she really wants to buy yet. Tsu-san, I was thinking we should put a chair like this on the balcony? Ah, but it has to be a whole set, right? An umbrella stand, in front of our place. Yes, but we don’t have space for an umbrella stand. Outside. You can’t leave it outside that’s public space. Oh, right. Oh, this is a larger version of the vase I want. Yes, it really is. Yes. It’s incredible. So many amazing things here. Look at this pattern or motif? I don’t even know what this motif is. Ah, but this is a folding screen? -Yes, you stretch fabric on it.
-Ah, I see. If so, it’s actually quite lovely. Mamiko, didn’t you say you wanted a folding screen? Not anymore. Oh? Look, Mamiko that one! -So lovely.
-Mamiko, sit in it and I’ll pull you around. Hmm… Ah, but it’ll break. Excuse me? What do you mean by that? It’s amazing. Mamiko still can’t hide her confusion. Look, Mamiko there are clothes for sale too. Ah, that chair is lovely. -This one?
-Yes. But maybe a bit difficult for our dining table. This chair is lovely. It’s nice, but there’s only one. Yes. Wow, incredible. Bonjour monsieur, Can I take a video of your products? -Yes, of course.
-Thank you very much. What on earth is this? I have no idea. It’s 180 euros. For two. Really, what is this? A doorknob. What, a doorknob? Well, sometimes you see these, but not this long, I think. But maybe it’s from a museum or something. Look, this one’s lovely too. -A wall sconce.
-Right. But this one could be a doorknob too? Could it really be a doorknob? It might be. Bonjour monsieur. What is this? Ah… I don’t know. Ah yes? I see. We put it on the fireplace with… Fireplace, maybe. I see. Usually there’s a clock in the center, and you can decorate the rest around it. I see, thank you. Even the seller doesn’t know, but it could be a doorknob. See? Yes. Highly possible. They’re selling clothes too. There’s something amazing here, Tsu-san, look. Isn’t this amazing? Wow, what is this, fruits? S… hum? Stemler… Mathilde… Stemley? What could it be? It’s amazing, even though it’s broken. What is this? What is it for? Look at all the birds! Wow! Amazing! Look at all the birds! Look at all the birds! Quick! I really don’t know what this was. Well, it’s okay. There are all sorts of things like that here. There’s so much stuff, you can’t even see it all. There are people from all over the world. This place looks like a little house, so lovely. Most of the shops are like that. Ah, that’s a Moët & Chandon wine opener. Ah, yes. I mean, the thing for cutting the foil? Wow, it’s beautiful. Épernay. Should I always serve you with that? Oh, on the other side, there’s even a corkscrew, even though it’s so thin. Can you see it? It’s hard to tell on camera. -Do you want to take a look?
-No, it’s okay. It’s okay if we buy it, but I’d feel bad otherwise. Oh, I used to have a Waterman fountain pen like this. Which one? Waterman. This one is 220 euros. That much? Wow. It might still be at my parents’ house. Then maybe yours could be sold here. There’s a pain au chocolat casually placed here. Yes, that’s important. Hey, Tsu-san, isn’t this what you want? For the stylish Tsu-san — perfumes and a grooming set. Ah, it’s amazing. 650 euros. Oh… quite expensive. It’s nice, but pretty pricey. This one is 450 euros. -That one is 450?
-Yes. Oh, with this, we could create a fireplace-style space at home. A fireplace? With this, a cosy little fireplace corner. Ah, I see. -It feels a bit too heavy for our home.
-Really? So many different things. Should I buy you something for you? Like this kind? Eight. Ah, yes, it says eight. Lots of eights here — that’s a lucky number in Chinese culture. Is 8 a lucky number in China? Yes, 8 is a lucky number in Chinese culture. -They even use numbers like 8888 for their license plates.
-Wow, I didn’t know. -Mamiko, there are teacups over there too.
-Ah, yes! Beautiful. Which brand? Amer… Japan. Wait, Japan? It says Japan. Here, Japan. Oh, really. Amazing. I wonder if we can tell from this. Amherst Japan. Amherst Japan. Wow! I didn’t know something like this was made in Japan. Mamiko, look at this. Ah, amazing. It’s not open here… It’s for viewing film, right? Well, you can’t see anything now. -Interesting.
-Yes. Looks like plates we might have at home. but this is… hum? -80 euros!
-80 euros. For all of it, right? As a set. Two, four, six, eight. Yes so they’re selling proper things at proper prices here. Yes, exactly. I wonder if they offer any discounts. -Doesn’t seem like it.
-No, unlikely. Look, Tsu-san, this one is 2,200 euros. Wow, that’s impressive. Look, Mamiko, Louis Vuitton “Damier”. Is it 1,200 euros? 1,200 euros, huh. It’s gotten expensive. It didn’t use to cost that much. Isn’t this set gorgeous? Look. Yes. Noix d’Arec… Acide Baltimique? Oh, an owl! Maybe this would be a nice gift for your mom. It’s okay, we already have lots at home. Well, it’s okay then? -Yes, fine.
-Okay. Thank you madam, good-bye! -Oh, look at that.
-What? Van Gogh? No, not Van Gogh one, the chair! It’s not Van Gogh anyway. The yellow made me think so. But if you look closely, it’s a nice painting. What are you saying? You can feel the love in it. That’s why it’s Van Gogh. Is it Van Gogh? Might be a really valuable painting! If they’re leaving it out when it might rain, it can’t be that valuable. Maybe that’s why people don’t realize how valuable it is. There’s so much here. There are these old-fashioned paintings too. There’s no price on this one, but this one is 80 euros, for example. Well, it’s okay. Ah,Tsu-san, look. A cobra. Do you want it? Yuzu would love that. But I think it’s hard. Oh no, it’s not hard at all. -What?
-It’s soft. Touch it. It’s not real, right? No, it’s not — the eyes are different. It’s kind of scary. Oh, look. You can find familiar, comforting items here. But this is 30 euros. Yes. -This one is 15 euros.
-Ah, is that Digoin? Nothing written. 15 euros. Look, this part is set up like indoor shops. Ah, yes. Shall we go in? So many fountain pens. Montblanc. I used to have a Montblanc one too. Oh yeah! Where did it go? My handwriting’s pretty bad — even if I used a Montblanc. That’s not true. People say your handwriting has character. That’s what my grandma used to tell me. Isn’t this place incredible? It’s practically an art museum. This is amazing. Now this is what I call professional work. This section is in a tent, so it seems to have museum-level items. Hello. You’re right. It feels like a museum. I mean… I’d love to buy a painting too. But I prefer something a bit more modern. Oh no, careful….! Wow, Mamiko’s worrying about it for them, but that man doesn’t care. -His bag is …
-Got to be careful. Like this? Oh, Tsu-san, look at that chair, it’s pretty. It’s low — looks beautiful, doesn’t it? Yes. I wonder if people really buy statues like these here. It’s incredible. Like, “Wow, I love the movement in this!” “We could put it in that corner at home”. I’d never come up with an idea like that. You’d just think, “Where should I even put this?” -I want a mirror, though.
-Will we buy anything today? Everything’s just so massive. It’s hard… but it is fun to look around. -Well, let’s just call it a field trip.
-Yes, today is a field trip. Amazing. -Oh, it’s huge.
-Yes. This chair makes you want to wear a crown or something. This is probably C,S,L. Charlotte… Séguy. Okay, okay, thank you. Wow, there are all sorts of things here. It has an Émile Gallé vibe. -Nice.
-Interesting. This one’s signed by Mr. Vancs. Hmm? Pa… Pa…? This has to be by someone famous. -Isn’t that vase amazing?
-Yes. It’s beautiful, but it would draw too much attention at home. It’s just way too different in taste. That’s true. Our home isn’t that fancy. We’re more of the down-to-earth type. It’s incredible. They really sell all kinds of things. Everything here feels genuinely antique! But this painting is quite charming, though. I wonder how much it is. Maybe around 3,000 euros. Even the frame looks luxurious! -Should we ask the price?
-It’s okay. And that bird is pretty too. Amazing. But since each painting is one of a kind, you have to get it if you find one you like. Especially paintings. This one’s lovely. It’s nice, isn’t it? How much? No idea. There’s no price written. It was painted in ’73. This one has beautiful colours. Look, they even have the catalogues. Oh, yes. Maybe it’s like, “This is the painting from this book.” -I really wonder how much these actually are.
-No idea. Oh, Tsu-san! I feel safer outside, Tsu-san. Well… Look, the sign says “Soldes.” There’s such a delicious smell I’m getting hungry. You just ate, Tsu-san. What are you talking about? -Ah, egg holders.
-Here we go. But they are not my kind… Wait, Mamiko, this is Flora. Flora. -But it’s quite cracked.
-That’s true. -Still amazing.
-Yes. Flora pieces are popular, but… -But this one’s pretty damaged.
-That’s true. You should check carefully, Mamiko, or later you’ll re-watch my video and say, “I want that one too!” But I don’t see the prices. But it doesn’t look to be in great condition. The previous ones were much better. If the Flora one were perfect… Look, it’s JM. Which one? Should we get it for our landlord? -Ah, because our landlord is JM.
-Yes. Plates. But it’s not like there are any particularly rare plates here. Ah, Tsu-san, there’s a little chair. Oh yeah, ours broke. Isn’t this lovely? -That’s too small to sit on it.
-Too small, huh. I got scolded for that. What about this? You could bump into the corner and be like, “Ouch!” Like, “Who bought this thing?!” Tsu-san will definitely say that, no doubt about it. Oh, this one. This one’s lovely. -A stool.
-Yes. Oh, look — a samurai helmet for sale! Maybe I should sell the one from my childhood celebration. Well… if you really want to do so, go ahead. But true, some people who love Japan collect those kinds of things. Look, it looks like something from the Islamic world. Yes, it’s beautiful. The one behind it looks similar, too. Yes. Beautiful. Ah, this place has an amazing plate set. Ravier! Oh, it says Sarreguemines, with bold letters. I’ve never seen this signature before. Beautiful. But you probably have to buy it as a full set. Ah, the plates here are amazing. Yes. Look. They also have the whole bird-themed series here. Right. Amazing. Look, Tsu-san. This plate is designed to look like stacked plates. Wait, you mean they arranged them like that? This is the three-plate version. No, not how they arranged it. The plate itself is like this. Oh, that’s how the plate is? -Because they’re attached, see?
-Wait, what do you mean? Maybe it’s for decoration. Oh, for decoration. Still, it’s interesting. -Even the motif is…
-Beautiful! Pretty. I wonder where this is from. Ah, Sarreguemines! What? That’s Sarreguemines? 280 euros. Incredible. Maybe it’s for a collection? But if someone buys them, I’d want them to get the whole set. Look at this one. I wonder if this is from Japan. I’m not sure… Wow, look at him. He looks so happy. Over there — they have lots of those. Lots of what? See? Tsu-san. That’s amazing! This is the perfect version of the one I have! Ah, you’re right. And three of them! Wow, that’s amazing. Wow. I wonder how much they are. -Incredible.
-Must be pricey, it’s in a showcase. True. This one says 40 euros. Ah, I see. And this one is 65 euros. Hmm, that makes sense. -So, that 10-euro one was such a deal…
-But it was a different, a bigger one. Well, this one’s in perfect condition, after all. Well, that one was a bit dirty, you know. Tsu-san, this is the one. The 10-euro one had this design and was bigger. This one is 170 euros. But ours was 10. So cheap! Oh, these ones here are missing some parts. Amazing. Here it’s 170 euros, but what we bought was 10. But this one is perfect, though. Even so ,170 vs 10? Isn’t that wild? That was a real bargain. This one is really nice. If you want it, just buy it. I wonder how much it is. I told you, it’s 65 euros. I wonder if we can say, “Could you make it 50 euros?” No way it clearly says 65 on all of them. I’ll negotiate for you… but wait, Mamiko, shouldn’t you look carefully? -There are egg holders.
-Ah, you’re right. Hello. Do you want me to open the window? Yes, is it possible? Thank you so much. Thank you so much! As you have reflections. That’s nice. Amazing. But that egg holder looks so delicate that it’s terrifying to use. Really? Well, of course, it looks so fragile. But isn’t that egg holder adorable? Well… it’s 45 euros. Oh, it’s 45 euros… I see… -Wow, amazing.
-It really is. But you’ll never find another egg holder like this. I’ve genuinely never seen them before. True. Because it’s so fragile. It’s amazing it even survived. I prefer this one, though. -Oh, really?
-Yes. Well, it’s prettier. The one we have at home has a little crack, you know. Ah, they also have that blue-ribbon one you like, Tsu-san. Thank you very much. Clatter clatter clatter~ So we’re not buying, then. I’ll think about it as it’s a bit expensive. Look, Tsu-san there’s that one. It’s “Dinette,” the toy dish set. Ah, yes, they’re adorable! This tiny ravier is so cute. -The artwork is cute.
-So cute. Ah, thank you. Yes, that will be better. Thank you very much. This is Gien, it says. So cute, so lovely. This must be a set, nothing priced individually. I wonder how much it is… I’m scared to ask! So pretty. This one is really lovely too — the painting, I mean. Oh no! This one is 550euros, for this. 550, Tsu-san. Wow, incredible. That’s quite a price. That’s a serious price. Yes, I guess it’s something people really seek out. -Because I’ve never seen them before.
-No. And these Saint-Louis wine glasses are just so beautiful. Ah, lovely. Between the egg holders, this one’s more fun. Is that so? -Don’t you think it’s cute?
-Humm…. Oh, they’ve got miniatures, too. -Yes, this is tiny and so delicate.
-Amazing. Incredible. Well, that was quite something to see. Not exactly the buyer’s perspective, ha-ha. Well, everything’s too expensive. Ah, Tsu-san, this is the one I love, what was it called? Something… Hannecy? Hansi? Ah, Hansi, right. -This is Sarreguemines, see?
-Oh, really. So it’s from Strasbourg. Cute. Oh, I see, I get it now. Lovely! -A collaboration, with Hansi.
-Yes, so cute. -See, it says Hansi.
-It really does. -This one too, look.
-Oh, yes. This one is written as Jean-Jacques Waltz, but yes. It’s cute. This one’s perfect condition. So lovely. This shop really has some remarkable pieces. Look — this design would make any chestnut lover go crazy. It’s decorated all over with chestnuts, so fun. Amazing. Truly incredible. There are so many things people must be hunting for. Thank you very much, sir. Thank you very much. Have a nice day. Goodbye. This is great. It really is. Oh, the things around here are the kind we’ve seen often. -Ah, these.
-Yes. -The usual things.
-Yes. Oh, wow! This is just like the one I use for filling soy sauce bottles. Ah, you want to use that? Oh, it’s a Roland accordion! Alright then. It’s incredible — you could keep looking forever. Yes. Now it’s perfumes. Ah, wow really. Oh, it’s a perfume shop — wow! Hello Mrs. Can I film your booth? It’s Mr…. -Hello.
– You’re welcome. Thank you so much. Amazing. Wow… I used to wear this Eternity, in high school. I’ve only seen perfume bottles this big at events I was shooting. Yes, exactly. But nobody would actually use those ones at events. These are more like, as objects. Right, but do you think the liquid is still really Eternity? I don’t think so. Oh, small Penhaligon’s bottles — so cute! Does that mean these are old samples, because of the size? And someone saved it and it’s just being sold like that? Maybe, but since it says “for gentlemen,” I guess it’s a small trial box. Look at this. -Ah Guerlain.
-Guerlain, yes. But the amount’s gone down a bit, so it must be the real thing. Yeah, something this size has to be the real thing. But for collectors, it must be like, “Wow, amazing!” Aren’t you a perfume enthusiast, Mamiko? Not really a collector, though. Amazing. So many of them. Amazing. Wow… whoa. So tiny. Yeah. Twenty, Chanel. -So it’s 20 euros?
-Yes. -Is that 20euros?
-Yes. And then here…come and see. Real perfume. Instead of 120euros, 65euros. For women. 65euros. But great model. Really the price. Less expensive the price… It’s cheaper than at the perfumery. 100 ml, big model, all that. All right. Chloé, look. All right. But this isn’t real? No, that’s decoration. That’s for decoration, yes. So, expensive because my… In a shop, it’s worth 300euros. And me, the price… There’s no price label? 160euros. 160euros. Instead of 300. That’s right. But it’s worth the collections. It’s the same. Same. There’s the price, you see? That, 180euros, 160euros. That’s fine. Interesting! It’s nice to decorate a bathroom. Yes. It’s nice for a bathroom. -Bathroom or elsewhere-
-Yes. I have it all over the house. You have? I have perfume. I see. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Have a nice day. Incredible. But it’s hard to decide whether to buy it or not. Well… where would you even put that? It’s tricky. It is tricky. Hey, there’s a strange chair here. What is this? Is it a chair? Oh, I get it! It’s for praying. You rest your hands here. Maybe you should confess, Mamiko. No, that’s you, Tsu-san. What are you even saying? Look, Mamiko, what’s that? I think… A speaker? No, I think it’s like the front grille of a car? -No? Is it?
-Is it? Eh what is this, Maurice… Comboré. Doesn’t it look like it? Isn’t that the cap for the gas tank? I’m not sure, but is it? Incredible. They really can sell anything. Ah, a rocking horse. Yes, pretty. Is it a rocking horse? No, it’s a bicycle, Tsu-san look! -Ah, you’re right.
-It has pedals. You ride this like a bike… Amazing. -So cute.
-Yes. Look, a piggy bank. You like piggy banks, don’t you? -Look there’s Gien too.
-Ah, you’re right. -A water pitcher.
-Yes. -Amazing.
-It really is. Textiles? It’s paper not textiles. -Paper, wallpaper.
-Wow, that’s amazing. -Wallpaper, huh.
-Yes. I see. Incredible. It’s impressive how these things still survive. -Amazing.
-Right? This is “Antiques Saint Christophe”. Feels like a house. There are lots of stands that look like little houses. I just noticed the toy dish sets again. Incredible. Wow this must be for puppets, right? Amazing it says “Guignol”. Like, “Hello,” or something. Should I do that at home? “Hey, you!” “What do you want?! Terrifying! Oh, look. Could this be an old vanity table? It’s so overwhelming I can’t even understand anymore. Let’s just go straight this way. Let’s just keep going straight. Mamiko’s like, “What is going on here?” What does this all mean? Mamiko’s got her shopping bag with her — but will she buy anything? Okay, enough with that narration, stop. Oh yeah, I remember — the water jug got broken. Oh, that’s right — Mamiko broke it. Well, not that I broke it… it broke on its own. -Right, naturally.
-Exactly. Those wine glasses are so beautiful. But they’re too tall to fit in my glass cabinet. And 200 euros. But for six. -Well, that makes sense.
-Fair enough. Our sense of value is starting to go numb. What’s next? But it’s getting long, we’ll continue next time!
