I go for months between charges. Something wrong with it or maybe a bad battery?

Di2 should not run out of battery often.
Now, I admit I am a SRAM fan and therefore always carry a spare battery in my jersey (for exactly this scenario). But the batteries for Di2 should last hundreds of hours of riding. So long as you top them up every month or two, you should have no problems.
How often are you charging your battery?

I ride 5 days a week and have only had to charge twice in about 4 months…

Yep, you are def doing something wrong there dude. DI2 batteries last a long time on a charge.

di2 should last almost a whole season of heavy riding if all it’s powering is 2 derailleurs. like 1000+ miles

Have a shop check your system. Possibly you need a firmware update or there is an issue with the battery. My battery charging is about every six weeks.

Sorry man, skill issue. In the past 3000 miles I have charged mine 3x. If you don’t want to pay attention to it, that’s totally cool, but the battery life on these things is far beyond reasonable.

Dodgy battery. I can happen.
Shimano carries a good warranty (2y).

Cables are better, but you have to plug them in and your range is only as long as the cord.

Are you by chance transporting the bike via car/bus/train frequently? If it’s dying on you mid ride it’s because one of the shift levers is being compressed the entire ride and the deraileur is constantly trying to shift. Even faster if it’s the left levers.
I shift 400+ times per ride, I’m out 3-5 days a week and probably charge it once a month
