Looking to finally maybe just maybe make the big purchase of a Canyon Aeroad 🙂 They’re having a sale and I can’t decide which one I would want, I also am not very bike technical savvy so be nice.

Ride about once or twice a week, about an above average rider. Looking to upgrade from a Trek Domane. Want something for endurance and maybe low level racing in the future so I don’t think I need the CFR but don’t want something entry level anymore.

Have the following options. Which would be best based on parts and my riding intentions? Prefer newer models which I think the SLX 7 is last year model? Leaning towards CF SLX 8 with the zipp wheels…or do I Just wait and not spend money…

  1. Aeroad is not endurance at all, literally the opposite. You’re comparing dramatically different tiers from dura-ace to 105. Saying you’re not technical shows in this question. Ride your current bike, your money isnt burning a whole in your pocket. Canyons go on sale all the time. If you really want a good endurance bike, find a good bike fitter near you and get a bike fit and let that decide what bike to get. Dont go off of looks.

  2. That’s a lot of bike for riding once or twice a week, but you do you. Since you’re coming from a Domane I gotta ask, are you sure you’re ready for the compromises to comfort that you’ll be making when riding an aero bike?

For my money, I’d buy the CF SLX8. Best wheels of the bunch. I don’t think the few grams saved by the CFR frame is worth the $2500 premium.

  3. I wanted a new bike this year and started with a bike fit. Based on my fit, my fitter gave me a list of bikes that would compliment my numbers and ergonomics.

I ended up getting a bike I’d never heard of…an ENVE Fray…and I love it. I’ve put in more road miles than any other year of my life. Without the fit I would have gotten the wrong bike.
