This is really cool!! I would not have guessed small mammals are so inefficient. And the flying animals are more efficient than I would have guessed.
I wonder what the dot directly under “automobile” is? It’s the only other vehicle that’s more efficient than a human walking.

in theory you have to account for the costs of building the bicycle, and i bet i am less efficient that a lot of other humans, but still neat to see in graph form
Is it possible to design a “bike” for a salmon? Something that helps them move faster/more efficiently? Maybe a longer tail fin? Sleeker skin?
The trend of lighter animals being less efficient makes me think that the efficiency metric [ energy / (mass * distance) ] should be adjusted to be more useful.
