I don't want anything flashy. These are the ones I'm looking at right now. Mongoose Montana for $100, Genesis Maeve for $125, and Trek FX(1?) for $150. Are these worth it? Which would be best in regards to low cost for repair/replacement parts and less attractive to bike thieves.
I'm planning to have whichever I pick tuned up anyway, but do any of these have glaring problems/red flags?
Thank you all in advance!

  1. The Trek fosho. And it’s not even close.

Those suspension forks are worthless – actually worse than worthless, they actively make riding worse, sapping energy from your pedaling as they bob up and down.

Also the two with suspension forks are department store brands, commonly called BSOs – bicycle shaped objects. They are consumer grade crap, not designed to be maintained and serviced and repaired.

Trek, on the other hand, are sold at bike shops, and can be repeatedly tuned, repaired, and maintained for years and years.

  2. The trek, but I highly encourage making it look like it was pulled from a dumpster and painting over the frame.

Get some cheap spray paint and go to town.

A trick ive done before is wrap electrical tape around the frame tubes as well. Makes it look like it’s cobbled together but it’s literally just tape.

  3. You have some wildly different size bikes. The Genesis is the smallest, then the Mongoose then the Trek. If the Trek fits it is the best bike of the three. Second the stickerbomb or spray paint plan.

Nobody would be stupid enough to steal and then ride that with the seat tube and bar stem raised to such ridiculous levels 🙂
