Heyyy !

I am considering to put a Rolhoff on a Kona Sutra ULTD. Did someone ever tried it?

I have a thru axle on the rear, was thinking to put a chain tensioner on it. Should be fine no?

The reason I am considering this switch is because I will ride a lot with my bike and need something reliable. I am currently in 1×12, it's dope ! But too costly…

Was also considering to go on 3×9 but Rolhoff looks amazing !

Thanks !!

  1. Check if you have somewhere to mount the torque-support.

It’s a small screw that holds the hub in place at your frame. Otherwise, it would just spin spin spin, making it unable to shift gears.

There are lots of adaptors like the monkey bar for rohloff, and if all else fails, there is also a (very ugly) bracket to mount to your frame.

Anyway, rohloff is cool. You can buy 1-2 extra chain rings for the rear that can give you an overall higher or lower gear ratio, depending on what it currently is that you need (mountains, flat lands, etc.)
They can be mounted with relative ease.

This will even get you up the steepest of mountains.

Lastly, consider that rohloff can only be shifted when you’re not putting tension on the chain and the hub. So you will need to momentarily stop all pedalling and especially on mountains. This is exhausting. With some time, you will get quicker at shifting, however, and then this can almost be neglected.
