I bought a 90s touring bike for commuting and adventures, and have been building it up bit by bit.

As far as I know it was a low-end model and was in somewhat rough nick when I got it (retrospectively I massively overpaid for it but whatever).

So far I have added:
Ergon grips – genuinely can't figure out which model, but they came off another bike. Very comfortable, massive upgrade over the 30-year-old foam ones it had before.

Pelago Commuter front rack – medium size, I really like this one although it was a bit expensive.

Velo saddle – the old one was broken and ugly, this one is relatively cheap but it'll do for now

I have plans to add:
Rear rack – this will be more convenient to put panniers on for my commute (I can also fully load the front but if I'm only carrying one bag to uni the rear is nicer). If anyone can recommend a good one that isn't too expensive, let me know!

New tyres – the ones on there at the moment are old and need replacement; I want to try some that are a bit less knobbly maybe.

Clicky shifters – I hate the current dial ones, they look and feel terrible. I've let go of my dreams of a full transmission swap and a drop bar conversion, so I'll hold onto the 3×6 for now, just with some better shifters.

Various bags – I'd love to take this bikepacking, so a frame bag, handlebar bag and seat pack are in order at some point when I can afford it

New handlebars – I'd love to get some with a bit more of a sweep and rise to them. Also possibly a different stem, although I'd need to learn about the handling implications first.

I'm planning to take it to a local bike coop soon to learn to adjust the brakes (SORELY needed) and gears (also somewhat needed), maybe redo the cables, and maybe find some used shifters to swap for my stupid current ones.

If anyone has any recommendations, suggestions, tips, observations, opinions, etc. I'd love to hear them!
