Hey everyone — a bike-loving team of clinicians and researchers at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine is running a survey-based research study to better understand accident and injury risk factors among amateur competitive cyclists in the U.S.
If you:
– Live in the United States
– Are not a professional cyclist
– Have raced at least once in the past 12 months
– Are 18 years or older
…then you’re eligible to participate! The survey only takes about 5 minutes and will help inform ways to make amateur racing safer.
Thanks for helping advance cycling safety research! Please DM if you have any issues or complaints related to the survey.

Cool to see someone actually studying this. Done!

Where’s my participation trophy?
Honest question: does something like a Gran Fondo count as a race? (Specifically Gran Fondo Ephrata, and Twisp River Rambler are two I did this year). There is RFID tracking, entry fees, there are legit semi-pros/pros in the field, and I assume some are actually racing for times.
I’m not “racing” racing, I’m just there to beat myself from last time and push myself a bit. But in the same way as someone running a marathon or Tri or Iron Man is entering a race, me entering a 45mi gran Fondo is also entering a race right even if I’m not competing against anyone, right?
Only asking because I want to support this study but I don’t want to water down the data.
Responded, definitely amateur, my note was I also bike to work a couple times a week and radar and open ear headphones (shokz etc) both make a world of difference for awareness.
