[Music] The world’s best gathered in Cormal for the grand finale of the cycling season. The judo de Lombardia for the past four years won by Pogacha. He was hoping to attempt a fifth in succession. That would be a record if it would have happened trying to make it happen for him was Rafal Maher his teammate retiring at the end of the day after a stellar year. I was there and plenty of others too. A big day was in store as always in the fifth and final monument of the year. Climbing to Gizalo, the first of six big climbs, 4,400 m. The final climb as always when they go to Bergamo. [Music] It was Quinn Simmons who began very quickly indeed. straight out of the blocks and the first to attack trying to force a group away. 241 km in total. At just 5ks in, he was already away with eight other riders. Others would attempt to try and come and join and eventually the Jur Lombardia would have as many as 14 riders in its breakaway. Pressure you would think on UAE team Emirates. A dangerous group of riders. Some big names in there including the likes of Teo Bilba and Michael Matthews. UA were getting help though surprisingly so from Red Bull Boro Hanscrew. There was a crash for Tom Pitcock after descending from the Madona de Lizalo but he was able thankfully to continue. Pock and a few others distanced on the very tricky technical descent down to Lake Cormalt were able to get back. Maximum gap for the breakaway was around 2 and 1/2 minutes and the climbing proper hadn’t really even started. Early splits were sewn up again [Applause] and Bugattacha for the moment sitting in the bunch and being pulled along from the break. They started a drop just over 100ks to go. Gagar being the first to be brought back and with 88 km to go at the beginning of the pass de la Crocheta things changed again in a negative sense for Red Bull Bora Hanser as well because there was a crash for Ji Hindley. The Australian having awful luck on his preferred roads in Italy this year. At the front 10 riders remained but from the front there was about to be movement. be gap at 2 minutes 55 when Quinn Simmons decided it was the moment to go all alone. [Applause] 3 minutes of a gap, 82ks from the finish and the group that was with him fractured. Four chases remained led by Philip Orana. Michael Matthews. Bilbao was there as was Louis Feraka. Buggacha was sitting at the back of his teammates and Ben Healey was struggling towards the top. Seen as one of the outside favorites unable to do anything on this particular day. Then it came to the passivander. The hardest climb in the race. One by one they rolled off and rolled back. UAE was still trying to bring back a gap of two and a half minutes to Simmons. [Music] Jay Vine was at work. Rogich and Co have been dropped as well. Alfalip was going out the back of this group. And just at that moment with Six Assassin hanging on alongside Stora, it was a final turn from Jay Vine. And then the attack coming from Pugatcha. One minute 15 behind Simmons. Not even halfway up the pass. And nobody able to react. A sight we’ve seen many a time before. This time just as, if not more impressive. The rainbow jersey taking flight with 36 1/2 km remaining and well on the way to chasing down Simmons. It’s a flick of the elbow from Vine. An out of the saddle attack this time from Pugachad letting the wheel go by the Torto. Simmons was reached and he was with Pugacha until he wasn’t. The American champion putting in the ride of his life, but was unable to keep up with probably the greatest of all time. A new climbing record set on the passer just over 21 minutes with Pugacha breaking his own record. I try to attack from behind over the top. He would reach to Simmons and would be on the way to getting rid of Stora. [Applause] The Australian hanging on for as long as he could. [Music] And once up to Selvino, 19 famous difficult hair pins were about to begin. That’s where Stora could not follow the Olympic champion putting in a superb descending masterclass. Buggacha was at the bottom with a 1 minute 16 advantage seemingly barring any incident already having won the race. By the time he got to the climb to the Burgamo old city, Chitala, it was a festival of fans. And in the grand finale, a moment of celebration. Since the 1950s, only FTO copy had stood alone on the top step of the Lombardi Hall of Fame. 70 years since then, and it was finally Paul Gachad to have CPY keeping some company. Not only the five wins, but doing it better. Five in a row. No rider ever had previously won five Monument Classics all in a row. Also the first man on the final podium of every single monument in the same season. I second once again as he was at the Worlds and as the Euros. It was some performance from the Olympic champ and also wonderful efforts from the likes of Stora who’s on the podium. And a big word for Quinn Simmons, a fourth place. A warrior-like performance from him. Then Dot would just about sneak into fifth place ahead of Pitcock. And the top 10 looking like this at the end of the 190 Jid Lumbai. A 10th monument victory for Bacha. A 50th solo win. You could continue to roll off stats and achievements all night. Another enduring image though, one of the moments in professional cycling winning five longies. Something nobody had ever done on the bounce before played 51 at this venue and Bulgachad ending his season where he usually is despite the late scare on top of the boat. It’s been quite the season and as he goes into the winter does so being unique in the history of [Music]

  1. Pogi's gonna gain 7 kg in the off season to try and win MSR and Roubaix next year. Lol.

I know some are tired of seeing him win everything, but the way that he wins and the passion and fun he has on his bike is so great to watch.

  2. Tadej pogacar is the king of road cycling! The way he won races is out of this world..90% of the time he's all alone by himself..and he is not even trying his 100% power..i mean look at his face..he made it look easy..like it's just a zone 2 ride while everyone else looks tired and went to war ๐Ÿ˜‚..it's unfair..it seems like every race we already knew who's going to win๐Ÿ˜…

  3. For those new to watching pro bike racing, let me poing out that Remco is among the elite of the elite. Master time trialist, descends like nobody else and has legs like a machine…and he's still nowhere close to the talent of Pogacar. This is history we're all watching. Race after race, whether one day or a major tour, there is nobody in Pogacar's class. Never has been, and maybe never will be. I think he's got another 3 yellow jerseys in him, among multiple more World Championships and other jerseys. It's not a matter of if he can drop the rest of the peloton, it's just when. Because when he goes, nobody can follow.

  4. Honestly it is getting abit boring. Pogi is amazing but heโ€™s not making road racing interesting atm Iโ€™ll be interested to see how it impacts the interest in the sport
