Somewhat surprised. Though i’ve noticed that 105 chains don’t have the same treatment as higher end ultegra or dura-ace and are more prone to surface rust.
Bike is ~6 months old and has done ~2k km in the dry and a handful indoor rides.
I havent noticed any similar oxidization on my m9100 calipers – which see a lot more abuse.

Make sure you put a smidge of grease or anti seize on the pad axle thread if it’s already starting to oxidise.

Unfortunately yes. Water 💦 acts like an electrolyte making it worse. Anywhere you have two different types of metal in contact, they are going to oxidize because of their different electrical potentials. This is why it’s super important to grease every single nut and bolt, except for special cases, on your bike when they are in contact with each other. Exotic metals such as titanium require a special anti seize compound because of galling, which is a very different process than oxidation, but with similar damaging consequences.

Mine get way worse. I have really salty sweat and sweat a lot. The combo ruins rear calipers by season 3. Wipe off and ensure bolts have a thin layer of grease or wax.

I don’t have that, outdoor only.

Just a bit of gunk, it should just wipe off.

Had one screw do this, just replaced it because it bothered me.
