I got another sale offer with a full carbon fat bike for $1088

The parts look like such a good deal; I started thinking about it. I have seen some fat bikes on trails and wondered about them.

I posted link in case you have opinion

What I wonder is with fat tires and carbon frame : does that smooth ride out so much that I will not miss suspension for relatively smooth trails?

By the way, I would not be in snow if that matters

I have a carbon Borealis Crestone that is my main mountain bike. It has a suspension fork on the front instead of a carbon fork. I’ve ridden a bunch with both though and – if the smooth trails are just that – you don’t need a suspension fork. Where I live the carbon fork is great for winter but I’m glad I have the Mastidon for non snowy riding as the singletrack has a fair amount of roots through it.

I love my Salsa as a trail bike. I keep saying it’s efficient like a hardtail (or rigid), but rides like a short travel FS. The tires take out a lot of harshness. I ride on loose gavel to blues and blacks. Roots, rocks, cobble, babyheads, washed out trails; technical new England stuff.

  3. You’ll notice, it will be REALLY rough. Even a suspension fork would help.

Fat bikes are only needed for snow.
