So my chain broke, I figured it was old so I replaced it. As I was threading the new one, I noticed that the jockey wheel (upper if that matters) is pretty loose. Figured I'd throw the chain on anyway and broke that chain pretty quick (less than 10 km). Is this loose jockey wheel the cause of the problems? Can I fix just the wheel or do I need a new derailleur?
Thanks, y'all rock,

Honestly no idea if this alone can break a chain, but you can definetly find replacements for just that wheel.
Don’t worry that’s normal, it has some play to account for imperfect indexing
The upper jockey wheel is supposed to have some play. It’s intended.
It’s good practice to clean and relube it from time to time.
That is not going to break a chain.
Shouldn’t have broken the chain, but the wheel is worn and needs replacing.
As others have said, cleaning and lubing are important
These are made from soft materiał . So even if They are wobbly and worn down They wont do any harm to your chain. Considering chainging these Just check if these spin and if there is a noise from it.
Anyway until they go completely round its not an issue.
Might just be the angle for the video, but I’d suggest checking your b screw setting.
I’ve sent chains snapped by the b clearance being too low and the jockey wheel smashing into the lowest gear (especially on wide range cassettes). That could also account for excessive wobble on the jockey wheel.
Or I might be completely wrong 😅😁
