First time contributor on the sub 🙂
I decided to go hunting for some carbon wheels, in order to freshen up the look and feel of my rim brake bike. It looks so much meaner in this all black colorway imo …
After lurking on various online marketplaces and also debating whether I should go for a set of new Chinese wheels, I found these right here: FFWD Tyro Rim Brake (45mm depth), second hand but basically brand new, for 380 € inkluding a full set of SwissStop Black Prince brake pads + shoes … absolute steal. Sure, they aren't the lightest on the market (at a measured 1670 g including rim tape), but hey, they are said to be reliable, are handmade in Europe, and FFWD has good customer service & replacement parts.
I have not found clearance to be an issue with the 105 Rim Brake (BR-R7000). It's officially rated for 28 mm rims, these wheels have an external width of 29 mm (21 mm internal). Paired with a 28 mm GP5000, which comes out very much true to size on these wheels, clearance looks fine, from what I can tell (3-4 mm at the fork, at least 5 mm around the brake itself).
The reason I decided to share a bit of information on the tire / rim clearance, is that I couldn't find a whole lot about it in the first place. Unfortunately, I can't test them out yet, because of poor weather conditions, but I might post a follow up with some impressions regarding ride and braking performance compared to aluminium wheels.
Have fun riding!
