Hi folks!

I found this bike in a sad state at a trash can in France. I thought it could be a nice restoration project so I brought it home. I am a bit puzzled concerning its origin. It has fading stickers Solex on the down tube, but a sticker Bianchi on the head tube. Brakes are Universal Mignon calipers (Italy and looks like from the 50s from what I found on Internet), Rear derailleur from Huret (70s.. ?), shifters from Campagnolo downtube shifters, front derailleur Campagnolo too. White paint with blue lines that look like paint by hand.

Only serial number on top of the seat tube looks like 9S64407 (and a single “8” under the bottom bracket).

I think it might be a Solex Cycles from the 60s or 70s but I'd love to know more on its origin and quality. I started to work on it as you can see on the latest pictures. Could you please help me identify this bike?

Thanks!

  1. That last picture is a bit concerning, it indicates the bike may have been in a front end collision that slightly bent the frame. Inspect the top and downtube carefully in that area.

How does the frame feel? Heavy gas pipe tubing or something decent? From the stamped dropouts and accessory mounts it looks like a lower end model, I’m guessing 60s/70s. If nothing is siezed or twisted, would be a good candidate for a errands bike

Those campagnolo shifters sell for some good money. Definitely not for gold but they make some bucks.

By the style of the shifter I think it is either the 60s or 70s era. The derailler could be newer
