During COVID I hit hard times and spent a lot of time on the trails. The turn to fall was particularly soothing. I loved how every day for a two or so week period you’d get out there and things would be radically different from the day before. I love witnessing the change. Since the return to work I’ve still set aside my hour lunch for a walk through the forest preserve, but also made an effort to save PTO for a bike ride through peak fall colors.
This year I ran a loop up the North Branch Trail in Chicago, from LaBagh Woods and up through the Chicago Botanical Gardens, and back down the Green Bay Trail. With connectors it ended up being 45 mi. Started with breakfast, ended with dinner. A great day on the trail with a buddy.
