Hi all, I rescued this brooks professional off of an abandoned bike after it had been outside my uni for two years. Gave it some re proofing and it looked pretty happy, but I took it for a few hour ride today and it’s starting to crack. Is there anything I can do to prolong its life ?? I don’t care about the aesthetics just want to give it a good chance at a fulfilling career on my tourer.
Thanks all brooks experts in advance …

  1. That leather is probably still dry as a bone, even after a bit of proofhide. You might get better info about bringing it back to life on a sub like r/leatherworking!

  2. Ps. I conditioned it with dubbin. Sorry everyone. I’m a student and couldn’t afford to buy (too tight to buy) real brooks proofide. Burn me at the next stake, or whatever.

  3. give it a lot more leather grease, also on the underside. keep it in a warm dry place for a couple of days. ride it and don’t mind a few cracks. I have 5 old Brookses, all bought used for less than €30, all but one are fine even with cracks. One ripped.
