Feel like I’ve done something wrong it looks like absolute trash..
New chain, followed the instructions to the letter for the Stripper and Wax Prep solution. Then 1 drop of the wax per link, 24 hour cure, short ride, 1 drop per link, second 24 hour cure, turn the cranks a few times and took these photos.
I guess the flaky stuff will fall off if I go for a longer ride….is that OK…did everyone else’s look like this at this stage?

looks fine, you could probably get away with using a little less
What is the consistency of the wax that you dripped on? I had a bottle that dried out and was almost like play dough. It shouldn’t be like that. Once you shake it the product should drip out quite easily. Wonder if that’s what happened to you?
It’s a bit much but will come off after a quick ride anyways.
Ride it. It’s fine.
Once you’re waxed to spec you can remove everything with a shop towel. You’re lubing the pins, not the outer surface.
Run a higher temperature on your waxing and let the chain sit in the wax until it is fully warmed up.
Never mind, you are drip waxing.
Yea probably good, will flake off. YMMV, but I also “rub” the wax suspension into the rollers to help get it in there (kind of roll/spin the rollers between two fingers). Tends to penetrate the chain a bit better and I don’t end up with a ton of excess like you have pictured.
I don’t use Silca products. I do wax using hot immersion with paraffin and Squirt.
Looks do not matter. Excess wax won’t matter, and will flake off.
The worst case is that you are wasting money and wax. And Silca products are super expensive. So you better check your 1 drop per link method.
I’m not sure which way you did it but just making sure you put the wax on, from the top of the chain, that will be touching your drivetrain parts from the inside.
Once you go for a ride or go pedaling this will all come off.
I was like you. Using drip wax and it made everything look like crap. Decided to just hot wax instead. Looks 10000000x better and lasts longer. The longest part of hot waxing is getting the wax the melt.
One thing i recommend is to do the process at a temp above 15c. (20c+ is best)
Below that temp i think the penetration isn’t great for drip wax.
More trouble than it’s worth.
Any bottle-application waxes you guys would recommend?
Looks like you used a little much, but that is absolutely normal. After 24hrs and it’s dry, just wipe it down with a cloth and gtg
Maybe you should be more conservative with it (it’s expensive) but sometimes it looks like that especially if it’s getting cold
Prob too much drip, it’ll come off with riding.
