Hiking to Seebensee and Drachensee was the number one highlight of our brief stay near Ehrwald in Tyrol, Austria.
The view of Zugspitze from the Coburger Hutte is one I will never forget.
I firmly believe that you will be missing out if you skip this region, near the border of Bavaria and Germany. Hope this hiking guide was helpful!

Last year, me and my best friend Natalie went on an epic two-week Austrian road trip. And on day 10, we hiked to Draen Sey and Sebenzi, two pristine alpine lakes tucked away in an underrated region of Troll, Austria. This trail is often regarded as one of the best hikes in the country. And after experiencing it myself, I can definitely see why. In this video, I’ll show you all the trails highlights, including both the lakes and incredible views of Zakuitza, Germany’s tallest mountain. and stick to the end because I’ll share three tips to help you plan this hike on your next trip to Austria. If you’re looking for a more authentic, less crowded alpine experience, then a trip to Terroll, even though a bit out of the way, is a must. My name is Keanu and this is your travel guide to the Dragon Z and SevenZ hike. [Music] To start, let’s do a quick overview of the hike. It’s an 8.8 m outback trail with an elevation gain of 1500 ft. It took us around 5 hours with short breaks. You should consider doing a variation of the trail that is more of a loop, but I’ll discuss that later in the tip section. For now, let’s dive right into the hike stop by stop. Stop number one, Terroller House. The Terroller House marks the beginning of the trail. It’s a highly rated restaurant with a 4.6 rating on Google. [Music] stop number two, Zakbitza viewpoint. This stretch offers amazing views of Zakbitza, which leads me to this video’s quick travel trivia. Six Spitzah is Germany’s tallest mountain at 9,717 ft. At 15,766 ft, what is the tallest mountain in the European Alps? Is it A, the Matterhorn, B, Mount Vuvius, or C, Mont Blanc? The answer in 3 2 1. The answer is C. Mont Blanc. If you got it right, then comment the mountain emoji below. [Music] [Applause] [Music] About 3 mi into the hike, you’ll reach the first lake. Stop number three, Seveny. This lake is known for its clear turquoise water. I think the clouds made the water appear a little darker than usual, but it’s okay. [Music] The most difficult part of the hike is a section between Seven Sea and Dragon Sea. [Music] and before you know it, you’ve reached the final destination. Stop number four, Dragon Sea and Coberger Huta. Dragon Sea translates to Dragon Lake. Legend has it there is a mythical dragon that protects a sunken village at the bottom of the lake. True or not, there was definitely a mystical vibe to the lake. [Music] So far on this trip, I always opted not to eat at these huts because I didn’t want to hike on a full stomach. But this time, I wanted to try it. U just to say that I did. And while they offer traditional tarolean food, I wanted something more familiar. So I had spaghetti. Eventually, we said goodbye and headed back. I just finished the hike to the Seven Sea and the Draen Sea. Sorry if I didn’t pronounce that correctly, but uh it was a great hike and uh definitely recommend. Now we’re just going to take the gondola back. This is the last big hike of the trip and I’m just feeling very grateful that I got to experience it uh with my friend Natalie and I hope you guys check it out one day because I definitely recommend it and it was overall a great trip. [Music] Now, I’m going to share three tips to help you plan out the hike. Tip number one, use the gondola. You can park at the Airwalder Albon parking structure. It’s €5 for the entire day. As of 2025, the price of the gondola is €25 round trip. While it’s a bit pricey, it’s worth it in my opinion because you’ll be able to skip an additional 3 mi and,300 ft of elevation gain. Plus, the cable car offers pretty views. You can refer to its official website for current operating hours and prices in the description below. Tip number two, consider the longer circular route. This trail, as listed here on all trails, is longer and twice as steep, but it is said to have even better views of the lakes in Zitza. We were originally going to do this route, but I was having some knee issues, so we decided to do the easier out and back. If you do the loop, however, it’s recommended to go clockwise to have a better view of the lakes as you descend. Going clockwise also allows you to get rid of the steepest part out of the way and saves the best views for the end. Tip number three, find accommodations nearby. I definitely think it’s worth staying nearby because the region around Airvald is gorgeous. From our short experience, I found cheaper accommodations in the nearby town of Bieber. And while Avald is closer to Zakpitza, we had a fantastic unobstructed view of the mountain from our humble abode in Beer. We stayed in a private room at the Alpenum Hostel and I’ll leave a link to it in the description. So, that was my hiking guide to the Dragon Z and Senzee Trail, and I hope you enjoyed it. I am super excited to share my next video where I’ll be ranking the top 10 destinations we visited throughout our twoe Austrian road trip. It will have a mixture of cities, lakes, and of course, hiking destinations. When that video is ready, you can check it out here. As always, happy travel planning and see you in the next adventure.

Hi Everyone!
I know that many of you might only hit up Austria's main spots — like Vienna, Salzburg, and Hallstatt — but if you have the time, I HIGHLY recommend checking out this region near the border of Germany in the state of Tyrol.
Gorgeous views, less touristy, and simply incredible. You won't be disappointed!

Awesome hike!👍🏻👍🏻. The Lakes looked super beautiful… by the way, did you see any locals or hikers fishing the lakes?
