Myself and a group of riders are heading to VT at the end of the month to ride the Heart of the Greens loop on the Velomont starting in Rochester for a 2 day mini trip.
We’re riding the loop clockwise from Rochester and staying at the Chittenden Brook hut for the overnight.
If anyone here has already done the loop I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences as I work on planning the upcoming trip.
Things id love to hear more about from anyone who has done overnight unsupported rides are:
- water/food or re-supply strategy
- clothing
- easy dinner/breakfast ideas
- personal lessons learned

I’ve ridden a bunch of it in parts! The majority of the climbing is very pleasant. Depending on your timing Pittsfield has a good general store for a resupply. The green mountain trails are goofy and fun if you have energy for an offshoot.
Otherwise, bring lots of bars/gels/hydration mix, and some easy meals for the hut!
Bold move at that time of year. Be ready for nights in the 20s and mornings that don’t get above freezing until 10-11. The days get short fast and everything in rural VT closes by 6pm.
