Hello, ladies and gentlemen, after mountain biking for around 10 months I have finally managed to clear this table top at my local trails. It was pretty hard to clear since you had to pick up a lot of speed before it. Looking at the video I noticed that my back wheel took off the ramp way before it was over. Is that normal and how does my technique look over all? Thank you

Finally cleared a jump!

  1. Ok, I’ll be the guy… no you didn’t. At least not in this video.

    In fairness, I couldn’t either.

You didn’t clear it and you’re lucky you didn’t eat shit. That’s dead sailor and casing at its finest. Learn to bunny hop then work on jumping.

Bit of a premature Peter in this clip but you’re not terribly far off. Sort it before going too much bigger and keep enjoying the wonderful world of bicycles 🤘

  4. No your back wheel should not leave the ground before it gets to the top of the ramp. you are “jumping” way before the top of the jump. You need to drop your heals and push into the takeoff to get your weight back over the centre of the bike to keep the front wheel coming up while the back wheel completes the lip. then use that pressure you have loaded into your legs to pop and level out. you will find you will be able to do this jump much slower

  5. Go ride the pump track over by Tower at the Brazos River Park. It will build strength and help with your form. Also keep up with the XC trails there so you don’t feel winded after charging up to the jump.

Looks like you’ve got some good progress so far, keep it up! That’s a fun jump line!

  6. That’s a cool jump line in Houston. One of the very few we have.

Anyways you could get more distance and air time if you keep wheels on the ramp until the edge of the ramp. You’ll feel how you go higher up as well
