  1. Material-Try8487 on

This is a shafted stem, so there should have been a long bolt that goes through the top of the stem, this attaches to a wedged bolt that locks the stem in place. You should be able to dislodge that with a knock to the stem with a rubber hammer, or put the bolt back in and “gently” give it a wack either way it should loosen and will pull right out.

  2. It’s held in by an expansion wedge, which it looked like you’ve already taken the long bolt out. I’d screw is back into the wedge first leaving it still standing higher then the stem, with a mallet you need to tap the stem bolt to release the expansion wedge which is holding it in situ. Once it’s released the stem should freely come away from the forks.

  3. Put the bolt back in. Even if it won’t thread into the wedge, just get it in there. And smack it with a hammer. Not a soft mallet, a real hammer. This will destroy the threads, but they are probably boogered up anyway, thus the not threading situation. Just smack until that wedge pops out. You can find a new bolt and wedge off any junk bike with a quill stem.
