  1. I’ve sold quite a few at that price point ($200) with gears, after a complete cleaning, lube, tubes/tires, critical repairs, and adding age appropriate baskets/racks.

But I buy them, around your friends price points, or cheaper – varies by condition.

They take a little extra work to get that price in the advertising, too. Gotta play up the “farmers market” vibe in the listing and photos. Find prettier backgrounds, throw some veggies, and cut flowers in the basket for the shots.

Single speed coasters are typically less desirable and don’t sell for as much, and I dont get them unless its a cruiser bike.

  2. These are $20 bikes all day long. Plus the women’s bikes are way more flexible due to the inherent frame design. Not a fun ride unless the grocery store is a couple blocks from your house.

If it had a 2 speed kick back rear end and you were interested in parting it out you could offer 150 and make some money

  4. There is no “price” for used bikes. There is no store that stocks them. If you want it for $200, you’ll buy it. If you have better options, don’t. I’ll pass on this one, but $1,000 doesn’t buy much at a bike shop, $200 is a tuneup if they have to replace a few cables. I like to pay much less for top of the line bikes, but I have the knowledge to know what that is. I don’t understand why people can’t just ignore stuff.

  5. I sell those completely restored for $150-200, depending on condition (that one actually looks decent paint-wise), but if it’s not ready to ride that’s a bit much in my book… you can find another like it for less I’m sure.

  6. Way too many people out there think they got something just because it’s old.

I bought a Schwinn Suburban earlier this summer. Guy sold it to me for, basically, the cost of the new expendables, plus a little gravy on top for his time. It was a fair deal and I got a bike I could literally ride away on.

It’s ugly, it’s slow, and it’s exactly what I wanted/needed. For the first time in my life I didn’t buy a “fast” bike thinking I could make it work, and I’m all the happier for it.

I was gonna xbike the frame, but all the stock components are hella comfy as is after I got it dialed in for me. All I did was add some racks and baskets and Bob’s your uncle.

  7. Whoever put those tubes on didn’t take a lot of care. Going to put a lot of stress on the valve.
