  1. I’d ride it like this because personally I never find myself riding on small-small but I sometimes the big ring is a matter of pride and you don’t give in unless you’re done with every teeth the cassette has to offer.

  2. Yes, you won’t break anything unless you do a great many miles in the small/small combo. Risk of dropping the chain though. You can test by pulling some slack onto the chainring how much difference a link or two will make.

  3. Don’t remove more than 2 links. One inner and one outer. You’re really maxing out that derailleur’s total capacity.

    Mine does that, but I never ride in the smaller cog and smallest ring, so it’s fine.

    In the past, I installed chains myself. I had lots of chains falling off the front chainring until realized it was too long.

    It’s not too big it is too LONG. And the function of the bottom pulley is inherent in its name. The Tension pulley. If the chain is sagging in small small take links out until it doesn’t sag . Then there will be tension on it

  7. Yup, too long. Try removing a pair of links and then see what it looks like in big/big.
