Recently finished a single speed MTBMX build and wanted to add gears without spoiling the old school single cable feel. So I cannibalized a Paul thumbie shifter and attached it to a thread that I tapped inside the stem pinch bolt.
Felt pretty pumped that it came together. Just gotta find a used derailleur to toss on.

That is an ingenious setup! Is the shift lever mount bolted with one of the stem’s pinch bolts (it looks as thought it might be), or did you have to tap a new hole?
This is sick and very clever. I’ve had many thoughts about modifying bicycle components but have always been too worried to sacrifice the strength of a component.
Please post photos when complete.
