Hello and welcome along to highlights of the 2025 European Championships road race for the elite women. Some very strong squads on the start line this morning here in the Ardesh region of France. All eyes on the likes of Demi Volering, Alisa Longa, Borghini, Cashe, Nuvia, Doma. The entire French squad ever so strong on a very tough course. 116 km long, about 1,600 m of elevation gain, but to include a 7 km climb right in the middle. We started off on a long climb, Pelaton riding pretty steady there. We then had a breakaway form after the descent. It was the Danish, the Austrians, and the team of Slovakia with riders in the breakaway, but the big teams behind, the French, the Polish, and the Dutch were keeping control of things. And onto our first climb of the day on the finishing circuit. The coat deval on fair translates as the valley of hell. The breakaway was set to be caught by the pelaton. A climb 1.7 km long averaging 9 12% but peaking at 14%. The breakaway was caught and riders were struggling towards the back on this very narrow and steep climb. After the descent, it was Belgium making an attack with Margaret Vampaxenbaker. She went clear from what remained of the pelaton as we were now on the extended finishing loop which would include one ascent of 7 km long. All eyes were on the Dutch one asking the question, could they use this ascent to their advantage? A team that was eight riders strong with big favorite Demi Volering previous champion Anna Vanderbre. The action to begin with was at the back of the pelaton with some big names being distanced, but the Dutch were using the numbers to their advantage and they were splitting the race to bits. And now it was the turn of Demi Bollering to make her move. She was joined by Cash Nuvia and Alisa Longa Borggini. Her teammates behind were struggling having done so much work earlier on. Just Anna Vanderen of the Dutch squad remained with the pace of Demi Volering here. Just inside 40k to go. Demi Volering launched a solo move. She was joined initially by Italian rider Alisa Longo Bogini just trying to hang on to the wheel of Demi Volering, but a couple of bike lengths opening up. Very, very difficult to follow the speed of Bolering. And Volering was set to go over the top of this climb solo. looking over her shoulder to see what gaps are opening up behind her. Longer Borgini was distanced by Cashev. Just Anna Vanderbre was able to hold the wheel of the Polish rider and we were on to the descent. 32 km remained and Demi Volering was solo being chased by Cashini who was getting no assistance from Anna Vanderen of course being the teammate of Demi Vering. With one lap to go, 17 km remaining. The gap was 1 minute and 3 seconds from Volering back to Nvodoma as Volering climbed the remaining tough climbs on this finishing circuit. As we approached 3 km ago, she was set to take the victory at the European Championships. Of course, pushing on all the way to the line and finally in that final kilometer, allowing herself to celebrate a European title coming her way and the jersey for 2026. Cashma racing all the way to the line for silver and the Vanderbre, the champion in 2016, took the bronze for the Netherlands. [Music] Delight for Volering with that victory which means so much and she will wear the jersey for the next season. She took the victory over Nubia by a 1 minute and 18 seconds in the end a few seconds ahead of Anna Vanderen. Demi, congratulations. A great victory, but is another time a victory of the Dutch team. Yeah, I’m really proud to to take the jersey home for the Dutch team because we did the perfect race today together and uh also I felt really good today and the last few days uh I was really confident and I wanted to try to go early um because I knew that all the TT trainings I did for world championships, I knew that uh it was still in me. So I wanted to try to go early and yeah to do it uh the last part all by myself to to be sure from the victory and also because we did such a good race with the whole team. I really wanted to finish it off for them. Delight for the Dutch as Volering takes the European title and the iconic white jersey with the blue band and the gold stars into the 2026 season ahead of Nubia and Vanderbre.

  1. she is strong but not very well liked because of her selfishness. the controversy with Ferrand Prevot sounded very much like sour grapes. not to mention her chasing down Marianne Vos at last year's WC.
