  1. I’ll always prefer 2 bikes. Having a really good road bike that I can consistently ride the same routes and train, as well as a full suspension that I can ride stairs on and do serious trails will always be the best.

  2. I have enjoyed a mountain bike for several years. The ability to ride both asphalt and rough dirt roads. I have never had a flat tire.
But I miss the drop handlebars.
And with the mountain bike (Scott Scale 970) the distance between the handlebars and the saddle is too short to effectively stand up and pedal. Add to that the suspension is not completely stiff in the locked position, which makes it rock. That is why I almost never stand up even on steep hills.
I have come to the conclusion that although the front suspension can certainly make it a little more comfortable, especially on high-speed downhills, it is not something I really need. I have actually considered switching to a rigid front fork. Which would also reduce the weight by some kg.
A gravel bike therefore seems to be a good compromise here. It is faster than a mountain bike and I can still tackle the same gravel roads that I used to.

  3. A xc bike ? Some very light . good on roads .you can always change the tyres. Off-road, road.mix terrain. Stable with the longer handle bar's. Front suspension? You can get xc light suspension forks. Or ridged.
    The trend of bigger wheels.

  4. Sometimes when I am on my way to a gravel section, I start to wonder if a road bike would have been a better choice. But once I hit that dirt, all doubts and second guessing go away.
