At that price, you can get much better on the second hand markets.

Purchasing new bikes rarely makes any sense.

That gearing is just silly, who needs gearings like that? Especially with tires like those?

Probably a pretty solid bike if you care about having a warranty, though I would think about getting a nicer bike that’s a year or two older for the same money (or a nicer bike that’s 10 or 20 years older for a lot less money if you don’t care about modern geometry)

  3. Yeah that’s a perfectly good bike for the price. 1x with a 11-51T cassette, hydraulic bikes, and 40mm tires is very practical and will be good for anything (commuting, gravel, giant hills, whatever) that’s not serious mountain biking. Who cares if it has a square taper bb.

I realize this is r/xbiking, but while you could modify a used bike, if this is the style of bike you want imo go for it.

  4. they also just released new version with 27.5 wheels and bigger tyres (and more bosses). there’s a lot of no name/home brand parts on these cheaper marins, you can see where they cut costs – everythings pretty heavy. but they make fun unique bikes at affordable prices

  5. I have one and think it is a good bike. It’s got some ok geo close to an older hardtail and really good tyre clearance. I have 2.2 MTB tyres on mine and basically use it as an off-road rig.

I originally planned to use it as a commuter, but I actually didn’t really find it as good as some of my other bikes for that purpose. For me the geo was too relaxed and the bike felt quite heavy. Off road it makes a pretty rigid MTB I find. Just rolls over bumps well and with bigger tyres is very comfortable.

Can’t knock the price or componentry but it gets a thumbs down from me because I think the frame design is very uninspired and the colour is boring af.

If I was in the market at that price point I’d probably go for a Kona Dew just because I think they look a lot nicer, though they are alu instead of steel.
