Apparently if you good enough with maintaining or fixing bikes, there is a whole another world is opened for you. Much cheaper, much more interesting. I have my 2017 Canyon Strive CF7 for a couple years – non boost, full 27.5 and quite wanted something freshier.
I live in Ukraine and have a friend moved to Germany. Once we discovered German eBay (Kleinanzeigen) and the fact that some german riders are afraid of broken parts – there weren’t way back. Bonus part is having a buddies with their own bike shops where you can work on your bike for a beer and helping em fix customer’s bikes for free – and here what I built for a couple weeks :
Frame – Canyon Strive CF8 2020 (repaired chainstays) with Fox DPX2 perf elite and BikeYoke Modefixxer Pro2 – 250€ from Germany
Fork – Rock Shox Zeb Select RC 190 (mint outside, needed full rebuild inside) – 130€ from Germany
Wheels – rear Bontrager Line Comp 30 with Bontrager RapidDrive hub (replaced bearings, driver upgraded to 108 POE) – bought used from local trailbuilder for 40€. Front – RaceFace AR30 + DT Swiss 370 – used, mint condition, 30€.
Tires – Maxxis Assegai 3C MaxxGrip EXO+, Minion DHR ll DH casing – free (won on the local races, won’t fit on my prev 27.5 wheels)
Transmission, brakes, cockpit – swapped from previous Canyon
Ability to take a good photos – priceless

Old frame, shock and wheels sold for 350€
Result : Strive CF7 2017 27.5 non-boost -> Strive CF8 29 2020 for a couple beers
