    Worthwhile post, I think. But…is there a reason you’re looking for just this one plug? To my knowledge, many others would also work.

  2. That FSA plug is “OK” but TBH I would recommend an expander plug with longer engagement. That FSA plug is pretty short and a plug with a longer expansion area will support your steerer tube better. Remember that your expander plug has two jobs to do:

    1. Provide preload on your headset bearings to remove play prior to tightening your stem (it’s the stem that carries the load and holds everything in place).

    2. Counteracts the compression force your stem puts on the steerer tube better – carbon fiber is weaker in compression and the compression plug prevents it from crushing.
