    It may be annoying, that the pedal wont spin, but its not a huge issue. Maybe you can get the plastic piece out with a corkscrew to loosen the bearings a tiny bit.

  2. Pedals are cheap enough but you can always clean out the bearings. A hassle though but here’s how to do it:

    Take the pedal off the crankarm. Remove the plastic cover on the side, it’s in pretty deep in yours. A needle or flathead screwdriver gets under the cap and pops it off. You’ll find smaller nuts and larger cones. Screw them off on the non-spindle side. Watch out because loose ball bearings will fall out, expect 8-10 of them. Now you can take the pedal axle out, another 8-10 balls will fall out. Clean the balls or replace them, clean the cones. Use a thick grease to grease cones and balls. Reassemble.

    As I said, quite the hassle, but worth a shot if you can’t buy pedals on short notice.
