Hi everybody,

Hopefully someone here can help me. Bought a secondhand bike, advertised with carbon wheels (HED Jet), first video. However the material seems like plastic which is weird? I have tried to google the model, can’t seem to find them.

I am starting to doubt the legitimacy of the wheels, particularly when comparing to my dt swiss wheelset (2nd video), that I know is carbon.

Is there something I am missing / not understanding? Would prefer some clarity before I accuse the seller of anything. 😅

Thank you in advance.

  1. The carbon is not structural on the HED wheels. Instead there is what is essentially an aluminum box section rim with a carbon fairing bonded on to provide aerodynamic benefits. So the carbon on the hed wheels is significantly thinner the DT Swiss wheels, which by contrast, is structural, and therefore thicker.
