  1. if you can help it, try getting some gear aid stretch tape. Ive repaired stuff with regular gear aid but it has no stretch, and will eventually fray off with use

  2. Honestly, due to the weave of that fabric it probably won’t unravel much on its own as it is. The suggestion for stretch tape is a good one, but keep in mind that it will create a spot that doesn’t breathe and will likely end up sticking to your skin.

    I’ve had good luck using the gear aid iron-on neoprene patches for kit repairs. The patch itself isn’t neoprene, it’s just spandex with a heat-activated adhesive. The material is very thin and the adhesive adheres to spandex quite well. It also has a good amount of stretch and won’t stick to your skin.

    Whatever you do, be sure that there aren’t any sharp corners on the patch as those will catch easily and it will end up peeling off in no time. Straight edges are ok, but can lead to uneven stress patterns which will cause the patch adhesive to fail prematurely. I usually trace out a circular patch shape or something oblong with no straight sides.
