Welcome to the ‘Winter Unplugged’ rides. This series follows me and my new MTB, Liza, as I get back into cycling after more than ten years. With a heart condition and an autoimmune disease, every ride takes real effort, but that’s part of the journey. Along the way, I’ll share favourite trails around Loch Doon, weekend walking spots, and even the odd mini hike over a coffee. Honest rides, beautiful scenery, and the ups and downs of getting fit again, thanks for joining me!
In this the first ride in the winter “unplugged” series, I go for a ride on my new Carrera Fury MTB, who I have named Liza as she is Lora’s unpowered alter ego, I take her round the forest trails around Loch Doon which is my local area and a very beautiful one. It is easy riding distance but with this coeliacs disease and another health issue I mention in the video, I drove up, because I wished to conserve energy, I am doing this and starting riding again to try and resolve these conditions so you will have to excuse me breathing and the fitness levels which I am sure will improve as time goes on. In this video, I show some of my favourite weekend walking spots and also do a mini review over a Mocha of the Carrera Fury.
As winter is setting in I have put Lora away for the season so she can be cosy and not damaged by ice and road salt. She is safely ensconced in the garage. I will give her an oil change and do some servicing while she is in there, all the usual winter time motorcycle maintenance stuff.
Liza is the first mountain bike or any cycle for that matter I have owned in 12 years and it is nice to finally have an MTB again, I have been unable to afford one until now and had a limited budget. I wanted a Bizango but they were out of my price range. Fortunately the Fury which is a 2024 model was on sale as the 2025-2026 version is now on release. I really think this is a £1000 bike in a £550-600 price range considering the spec.
It has had good review over the years, not just by MTB testers and specialists, but the average daily rider, which I find much more important to focus on as they are the folk using the bike day in day out.

All right, that’s better. So today I brought Liza out, my new mountain bike, because Lora has gone away for
the winter. She’s in the garage. I might get out on her again before the winter actually starts. But we’ll
see what the weather’s like. So, its the first mountain
bike I’ve had in 12 years. So, lets see if I’ve forgotten anything.
Should be okay as I’m used to riding big sports bikes. But there you go. So, this is kind
of slow, but not slow if you know what I mean. It’s fun though. I need to adjust the front suspension I think and get used to the gears. I’ll tell you more about Liza in a minute. This trail’s a wee bit bumpy. So I’m at Loch Doon my local horn. I’ve just ridden up from the car park
which is a wee bit back that way. I’m going to see if I can get round to the left. I’m not out to set any records today. More a shakedown run to see if I
tightened everything up properly. Plus, I’m not used to it either. So, as some of you know,
I’ve been away a few months as I got diagnosed with celiac disease. So,
my fitness isn’t like superb at the moment. I’m sure I’ll get used to it… eventually. It’s really pretty. And
there’s a dead Christmas tree and lots of baby ones on the floor down
here. Right, right, lets carry on. Feels pretty solid. It’s got a fair amount of torque, that’s for sure. I keep tiring myself out, I’m used to a motorcycles
acceleration and I keep trying to emulate it as the accelerations programmed into my mind. So
even when I go faster, it feels like tick over. I’m came up from that little white house up there called Starr. And then down the path
along there and then round up to here. So there’s another way reason why I
have to exercise its because I went, so I went to the doctors to see for a blood test to see
if my irons levels had come up. And what she found was I have a dicky
heart valve. So in a few months time when I can get an appointment,
I’ve got to go and have a 3D scan. It’s beautiful. So that’s on the right is the Wee Hill of Craigmulloch and this on the
left, the one on the left is Craiglee. Those big hills there are the Dungeon Hills and I think this first one’s probably
the Wolf Slock. I’m not sure. Maybe its one of these. It’s further along. Yeah. Mullwarchar is behind it there. Beautiful hills. I’ll do a mini review on this MTB
once I’ve done a bit more riding. But the forks ain’t bad. Gear change is like a
shotgun. Like bang and its in that’s a nice view lovely. I go have a wee rest for five minutes
as I’m knackered as I’m not used to this stupid bell Right. Carry on. I might have the names
of some of these hills wrong, but well, I’ve got the names of the hills right, but
I might have the vicinity wrong. I don’t know if that’s Macaterick or whether that’s
Macaterick, that’s the Wolf Slock or or so on. Or Hooden’s Hill? it could be Hooden’s Hill. Don’t know. I’ll look on the map later as I’m not
used to looking at them from this direction. So, I get a bit confused. But the one in the foreground
here with the trees, for those who watch my Outdoors channel, that’s the one I got rescued off
because I couldn’t see the way down and I hurt my hip. And even now, even now, it still plays up a
little bit. It’s my own fault, wasn’t it? Should have made sure that I had my OS map
login details with me, but I didn’t. I don’t know what’s down there.
I’ll explore that another day. Fallen tree. A nice little burn here. It pretty, isn’t it? Beautiful. I love how our water looks like
tea. It’s just got lots of peat and minerals in. It’s actually really
clean. Even though it looks a bit brown, it’s due to the peat. Massive rock down there. Look, huge great thing. Lovely! adjust my camera. Ooh, wheelspin! I think I need to adjust the cable on my seat. Can’t get it to stay in the right
position. Think the cable’s a bit long. I think when Halford’s made it, they cut the
cable to sort of suit the post being higher up. Not for a shorty like me and my dropper won’t um
stay up properly. It’s like stopping half, sort of stopping halfway down, I want it up here but every time
I sit on it , look I want it here but I can’t. It needs adjusting. Oh, I hear a bird of prey. There you go Buzzards Beautiful creatures. Right. See, it’s getting stuck halfway up. Real pain. Got a creature crawling on my
arm. Small eight-legged creature. What a faff. Right. When I sit down and have a coffee, I’ve got an idea how to cure this thing. As its working
here, maybe just move my seat post up. I brought my tools just in
case anything needed to be done up. It’s just the first time I’ve ridden it. I don’t seem to have forgotten anything
in all those years. So there you go. I had a Carrera Kraken before Another wee burn. It’s got so much torque. It’s
like hard to get off the line without a wheelie. I think first gear on this is pretty redundant. In all honesty! It might be useful for going up
hills, but thing is I think you’d um so much torque in first gear you’d end up going over the saddle. You’d just lift the
front wheel up on steep inclines I think so pointless. Man, I am not used to this! Wow those trees are tall! I feel I might stop here and
have a drink. What you think? See if there’s anywhere to sit down. Maybe here. Probably a wee bit
uncomfy, but I think it’ll do. These hills are so deceptive. So I
was measuring on OS maps the other day the prominence. So from the loch,
the surface of the lock to the top of the big ones on the back here 1,900 ft.
Don’t look does it? is so deceptive. So, from there to the surface of water, nearly
2,000 ft. Right, time for coffee, I think, while looking at this view. I shouldn’t tilt it down too far,
should I? Really? You don’t want to see my nads. I don’t know. Some of
you might want to. But I don’t when I’m playing back and editing it. It’s
the last thing I want to see really. I’m not really a nad watcher. which is why I don’t think I could
never be a doctor or anything. Weight these plants down here. So they’re not in the way. And I’ll
remove the rocks when I finished. Pour some water in from my floppy bottle. It’s not as though I’m very far from the car or anything.
It’s only behind the wee house. So, I’m being stupid now! Why am I opening that for now? What a plank.
The hell am I doing? Check this is recording. These Velcro bits I stick on so when
it goes under the bike seat it actually sits there without falling off. because
otherwise it just rattles around on a motorbike. Obviously that would
be the case. So this morning I was busy working away on Facebook. Oh [ __ ] Doing um social media posts for customers,
adverts and things like that. and I put, and on my own social media page,
on my own business Facebook page. I haven’t posted for a while since I’ve been ill.
So this week I started posting quite a bit and Facebook this morning, while I was in the
middle of doing all that, disabled my account as they thought I was spamming and I’ve
had to send them a photo ID of myself and all sorts of things. They still haven’t
reinstated my account. But the thing is, I got like 15 to 20 customers that I’ve got
to look after and I can’t access any of them pages that I look after for them because
Meta have disabled my account. I’m pretty sure that they don’t want small businesses on there
anymore. They just want corporates that pay well, don’t they? Basically, and all us small sort
of local businesses, we could all sod off, can’t we? I’m pretty sure that’s what they’re
doing. Or to try and make all these small businesses pay for um Meta Professional,
but Meta, not all of us can afford it. All this subscription model business is really
getting on my nerves now. That’s £8.99 here, £8.99 there, £8.99 somewhere else. Adobe Stock
is now £24. Adobe CC Suite which I use professionally for my work is now £65
a month. It’s just everything is getting ridiculous. We’re just being ripped off
left, right, and center by corporates all the time. I absolutely hate capitalism.
I really do. Getting on my tits now. You know, the iPhone and the Galaxy is
a great example of that as well, isn’t it? Bring a new model out every year just
so they can get someone to pay a grand for it when last year’s phone was perfectly decent.
They just keep drip feeding like enhancements which they probably had sitting on the shelf for two years in the R&D department
anyway, just to make money! They could do it all already
but they just made out its “new”. Take it from an engineer. It’s a
load of bollocks. They’ve got all that tech already and probably have
have had for two or three years. Anything to rip the consumer off
basically and make more money. Give it a bit more gas. Mind you, it’s only 7° out here at the moment.
Doesn’t feel like it. Feels like summer’s day. That’s because you get acclimatised. Folk
from the south, if they came out here, they’d probably think, “Yeah, like for
[ __ ] sake, this is cold.” Its not, it’s just the north. Right, you get used to that. It’s just quite a comfy, beautiful
spot. I think I could sit here all day. I’d had enough today after the
Facebook incident. I thought, [ __ ] this I ain’t working anymore today. So, I went out on Liza, charged
all my batteries this morning, checked her all over, made sure everything was
tight, apart from the crank…Halfords? there are numerous other bits and
pieces which I won’t mention, but they’re notorious for it,
for not tightening the things up, which is why this time I ordered this unbuilt so
I could do it myself. As I just don’t trust them. prefer knowing that I’ve torqued everything up to the spec myself really. I know
it’s not going to fall apart. And I think that’s the thing with Carrera
bikes. They’d have a much better name. Yeah. If Halford did things up properly
and people didn’t bring them back in a strop because something fell off. They’re good
bikes if they’re put together properly. Absolutely brilliant value for
money for what you get. I’ll go over it in a minute after I finish my my cup of “Posh coffee”. They are not that posh. Got them from
the Co for £1.75. Seven sachets. Its a nice treat. Easiest is tea
bags for me. And I have Scottish 99 as its like 1.75 for 80 teabags. And they I think they taste just as nice as Scottish
Blend personally. Scottish 99. I like my tea. Oh, you got to admit, she is a good looking bike. Hello. I would appear on camera, but I’m
having a crisis of confidence again, which happens every now and again. And it depends how what has been said to me
that has like sort of damaged my confidence. I’m quite a shy guy really until you get
to know me. I don’t say a lot most of the time, if I don’t really know you. And then
once you kind of do get to know me, you wish you hadn’t cuz its
like will he ever shut up. It’s a bit like that really. Beautiful trees. Some are really quite tall and falling over in the wind. I was trying to find an example tree so you
can see how tall I was. You get an idea. probably about standing here. So where I’m standing I’m about
as tall as this branch here. I’m about as tall as this branch. That
one there. That’s how tall I am. But it’s deceptive because I haven’t got this on a headmount today. It’s on my chest.
They’re sitting just below my boobies. I’ve just spotted something down the
way there. It’s really got on my goat. And that happens too much, a lot here. So
someone left a tarp, blue tarp down there. Can you see it just on the bottom tree
line? Why don’t they just take it home? You know! us folk live here. Just take your [ __ ] rubbish home. It’s ridiculous. It
happens every summer. It is wrong. So I give you like context of how big these hills
are. So the summit of Craiglee which is probably… see the little white cottage? to the left of it
is a tree, a copse of trees, got a little copse but the summit sort of probably directly above that,
so that’s the summit of Craiglee, now on the right here is the Wee Hill of Craigmulloch and the
summit’s sort of like more or less in the middle, well between that summit and that summit is about
a mile. So those two hills here probably in total, probably about Yeah, that’s three miles that you
can see in that view there. You can see how big they are. It’s all very deceptive. And these
are small hills by Scottish standards really. That doesn’t make them any less beautiful. And this range here is quite
famous, its the Rhinns of Kells, And at the end is Corserine, which is
like 812 m. That’s quite a biggie. It’s probably still probably still
a good mile away this hill here. getting on that way, I reckon. But anyway, to my bike. So, for 12 years, I’ve
been wanting another mountain bike so I can get out and about. And the doc said because of my
cholesterol is a bit high and because I might have a dicky heart valve that I should sort of do
some gentle exercise. Nothing too strenuous. So until she’s sure what’s going on really, just to
keep my fitness up. So I thought that cycling is quite low impact isn’t it? really keeps
you fit, but it’s not over strenuous. So, I got another mountain bike, but I searched
and searched and everything’s just so expensive these days. But, I managed to get last year’s
model of the Fury, which this is, for 540 and I’m paying it monthly. And I think it’s
a bit of a bargain considering the spec, but I went for the small, only problem with the Fury is,
I’ve gone for a small frame, because in a medium, which I could also fit as well, the top tube
is so high up, it’s quite a rangey bike. So, I’ve gone for the small because the
geometry is better for my fit basically. And when I have the seat up about its normal height
on the seat post, that gives me sort of more room where me nads are, the stand over heights a lot
sort of better with a smaller frame. So I think in general they could probably do with cutting two or
three inches off the length of the seat post. Then I think the geometry of it would be better.
And I think also that maybe the fork rakes a bit too tight. It gives it a bit of a sporty
feel. Now, if you’re used to big sports bikes, that’s not really an issue. But on these skinny
sort of mountain bike tires, on loose gravel, that can be an issue. If you don’t know what
you’re doing. Basically, can get a bit skittish. I’d like it a bit slower on the geometry, I think. But yeah, other good points. It’s got
really, really good quality tires on, which is amazing for a bike at this price. It’s
got a one times ten gear set, which is nice. Um, it’s got a hollow axle crank and um with
outside bearings, which I’ve never seen before. That’s like really high tech for me. Aluminium
frame, Suntour forks, and they’re air forks as well, which is pretty amazing. Adjustable for rebound
at the bottom there. So, a bit like a motorbike really. Um, you can lock them off. They’re
also air adjustable for your weight. It’s got a through axle, which I’ve never seen before. I’m
really impressed with it. I’m used to nuts and bolts. So you just undo the quick release, push that
in, and this little thing, it’s a it’s a bit like milling collar on a milling machine. It just
compresses and you just slide the whole axle out within 10 seconds. It’s pretty amazing.
It’s impressive. um hydraulic disc brakes. But yeah, for the money I think
personally, I think it’s a £1,000 bike and not £541. £540 rather. I think it’s got the spec of a £1,000
bike and it’s pretty impressive for the price. But this is the top of the range Carrera. This is the
best one they do. That’s all I can afford really. I was going to go for, I was looking at a Bizango,
but I I can’t afford that. I haven’t got that sort of money. But I’m more than happy with this
because I’m never really going to ride up and down hills. I’m just going to like be doing forest
trails like this really. And for that, that’s absolutely ideal. But yeah, I’m well impressed
with it. bit of a bargain. I think, as I say, the only issue I have with the Fury is the height
of the frame, which is why I gone for a small, as I think for this type of thing, the small gives
a Yeah, it’s a better geometry. I think the medium and the large are just too, they’re
just too tall. This thing’s nearly like, It’s nearly horizontal on the medium and large.
It’s not good. It’s like riding a daddy long legs. Yeah, nice bike. Well impressed. And you
can just see the quality in some of the components like you know the seat post,
dropper seat post. It’s brilliant. Seat clamps lovely. The handlebar and stems
beautifully made. The forks are Suntour so good anyway, aren’t they? And the drivetrain Suntour
that’s always going to be good. Nice welds on the frame and it’s really quite light compared
to what I used to, as well, its like 14 kg. Nice. Very light. I think the seat’s a bit uncomfy for
me. I’m quite, how shall I put politely beamy. Not because I’m podgy, because I’m
stocky. I’m like wider than I am tall. So, I find it a bit uncomfortable. Wide
hips. So, I’d like something a bit wider, I think. And probably as I am
used to a motor bike seat as well. Yeah, nice bike. I’d recommend it. I’m going to, there’s a few little
mods I’m going to do to it, I’m going to get some different pedals because I
hate these. I think they’re a bit cheap. And the bearings are a bit gratey and I can
feel that when I’m pedalling. They’re brand new and I’m sure they’ll last a while,
but yeah, they’re not quality pedal. The grips are horrific unless you
got gloves on. You got gloves on, they’re fine. But in the summer, I
think if you weren’t wearing gloves, they’d start hurting on the palm of your
hand here. So, I’m going to replace them with some, like what I call clamp on grips, those clamp
on ones, with Allen keys. I’m going to get some bar ends as well as I I like riding like this
sometimes, just leaning on them like that. That’s about it really. I don’t think it needs much else. If that’s the only, if it was the only
mountain bike you could ever have, you know, you’d still have a lot of fun
on it and it’s still a brilliant bike. It’s good enough that you think why would
you sort of pay three and a half grand for you know another bike unless you were doing
something professionally. I don’t see the point when this like 540 quid bike is good
enough if you’re just like a hobby rider. The only thing I would have liked, another thing I would have liked to have seen, as you
can see it under the frame here, is the gear cable is exposed. It’s not covered. I’d
like to have seen that sheathed really or actually, you know, at least inside the frame
as I think that might be a problem in winter when it’s wet. Not that I’m
probably going to ride in the wet, but this is Scotland, so you never
know when it’s going to rain. One minute could be beautifully sunny and you fry and the next minute You’re freezing cold and wet
literally within 10 minutes. Another thing I will mention as well
is this hasn’t got Schrader valves or Schrader depending on where you come from. So remember that when you buy a pump or try to
pump it off the car air pump that’s not going to work. You need an adapter which you can get
for about three quid on Amazon. Or do what I did. I’ll show you. I bought one of these
off Amazon. Where is it? In here somewhere. 14 quid which I thought was a bargain. Its a portable um air pump with a LED display. You can use it for bikes, motorbikes, cars, and things like
footballs and air beds. But you can set it and it’s got auto shut off. But also a LED
light, which is like quite bright. Useful as a torch, but it’s also got an SOS beacon on it. And also
you can use it as a power bank. That’s 6,000 mAh. I think that’s pretty powerful. So that’s ideal.
Quite light. Probably about half a kilogram I think. So it fits in my backpack quite nicely.
My little rucksack here which is like a TARDIS. And then I can um take it out. And ideal for
the car as well because it comes with a cigarette lighter adapter. So you can take it out in the car
and stick it in the glove box. But for you know 14 beer tokens. I think that’s
a bit of a bargain as well. It’s ideal for taking out on the bike. See, another thing when, I have a naughty habit
of um smoking sometimes, when I put them out, put them in my bag, I can take them home
and not leave them out in the environment. I know I’m ranting a bit about that, but it
does get ridiculous here. It’s just too much. The amount of crap people leave behind.
Soul destroying when it’s so beautiful. I will finish my drink and then I’m going to
call that a day for this one. I think we will ride back. It’s like, it was a shake down really just
to make sure everything’s tight. Seems all okay. Just pack all this away. I’m going to take it back then. my trusty Jetboil which I’ve had for five
years now and has never missed a beat yet. I’ve misplaced my gloves. Where have they gone then? Maybe
I’ve left them where I stopped before. Oh, what an idiot. They’re definitely not here, are they, man? Now my zip is stuck. Got a dodgy tooth. Okay. They’re definitely not here, are they? Who knows? Look at this. Look at this bell!
it’s like “you rang me lord?” I know my station. If anyone sees any black woollen gloves anywhere,
They’re mine. I’m sure I’ll find them hopefully. They’re definitely not in my bag.
So, my fingers are getting cold. Maybe I left them here somewhere? I don’t really want to leave a pair of
gloves. Not not because they were expensive, because they weren’t. more, I do not like
leaving things in the environment that shouldn’t be there and panic about it in case
an animal comes along and eats it or something, which ain’t really fair, is it? The last
thing they want is to be full of textiles. It’s getting cold now. Stop along here somewhere didn’t I? There they are. Look. What an idiot. [ __ ] eejit! Oh, that’s a relief. And that animal isn’t going to eat then. And my fingers
will get a wee bit warmer. The sun looks beautiful on the hills, look its amazing. They’re still six miles away, those hills. The one’s on the horizon. And the nearest one here is about four from the house. Those hills are
six miles away in a straight line. Not as the crow flies because they’re all in town, but probably as the buzzard flies because
they are more of them here. Or the Osprey even! its probably 4 miles. No, it’s more than that. 9 miles. Loch Doon’s about 9 miles long. Oh, probably missed it on the camera. It’s a Buzzard. This has been fun. Yeah, I think the gearing on this for these sort
of trails needs to go up. Needs to be taller. because I can go faster than this and I think for gravel its maybe a bit too torquey at the bottom
end. Just too much wheel spin. And I feel in top gear that I want
to go faster. Or maybe it’s just me. Uh, it’s bumpy!!. So I went, lets see, along that tree line there. Probably a bit low down. It’s a bit low down to see it. There you go, that’s better So, not where the um pines are, but the sort of
deciduous trees below that is where the path is. Sun’s coming out on the hills now. Just put my glove on. Just
changed my battery. It ran out. I’ve just stopped here because there’s
a wee little place I want to show you. I haven’t been here for ages as
it’s like a sad another sad spot as I used to sit here with Tyson and I like miss him. Look, people left rubbish here
as usual. Why not just take it home? He used to enjoy coming down here for a walk. Used to blend in as he’s like
the same colour as the orange on the ferns and stuff. So he was like camouflaged. And look at all these little fungi
here I bet there’s fairies live here. It’s like cartoon fungus. Look, if you were to draw a fungus, as a cartoon its how you’d do it. I will remove this to get in closer But don’t drop the camera. It’s a cartoon fungus. I’m not going to touch it
as it’s probably poisonous. It looks a wee bit rude. kind of cute though. See if we can stick this back on here without
dropping it. Okay, but it is a beautiful wee spot. Figure on camping here one day. Stick a tent
there or maybe up there under the tree. We’ll see. I’ve got to get fit and build my energy up first. Sun’s definitely coming out now. It’s
lovely. All up on the hills. Look. See the sheep on the hill.
Little white dots everywhere. The sheep are mad. They just like climb up hills
like that, like they’re nothing. They’re down here one minute and then 10 minutes later you
can see them up the hill. They’ve just gone up 2,000ft just like that. Amazing creatures.
And sometimes they fall and they roll down. They just roll like to the bottom and then
just get up like nothing’s happened. It’s hilarious. Most damage done to sheep, unfortunately, is cars as they just don’t slow down when they should. Its a wee bit bumpy like That tree is a bit like me. Stumpy. I don’t know why
I say that. I’m not really that stumpy at all. I think the rebound needs adjusting [chatter] I’m warm. Yeah, I’m impressed. It’s a much better bike than
the Carrera Kraken was. The only thing that’s been
problematic for me is this. Um, seat. It needs adjusting. I
think the cable’s too long. Or maybe the cable needs oiling. because it’s not going back. It’s a good looking machine. I think
especially in the small frame because I just think it looks more how
it should with a small frame. Whereas in the medium and large, it’s
just too I don’t know. It’s too rangey. I think the cable’s, the cable needs
oil. It’s decided to work now. Get this for a beautiful view, eh? I’m bloody worn out. I think I’ve done all right. After what I’ve been through
healthwise the last few months. Roll back for the beautiful view. That’s sort of like directly opposite
of where I was, the clearing there. I made it halfway around the other side of the loch or halfway, halfway
as long as the path goes anyway. I was right. The path does go up. You pass those
um pines. I thought it was lower down, but it’s not. It climbs. That’s why I got confused. So, it’s lower down at the trees on the right, but
then climbs up where the um pines are and sort of ends up where the
clearing is halfway between the pines. You don’t think the trees are as tall
from here as they are the other side. You don’t realize they are so tall. Some
of the pines here are massive. So, it gives you a good idea of how big the hill
is as well, as those pines are the same height all the way up. And they look as though they just
get smaller and smaller and smaller. They’re not. They’re all the same height all the way up the
hill. It’s just the hill is really really big. Can you imagine riding along the top of
that? Maybe one day when I get my fitness back to how it should be. But I’m fit enough to do this
now. I haven’t got a long way to go really. It’s just a matter of doing it more. But I’ve got to do it because of my health. If I don’t, do this
Yeah. Not going to last long, am I? Even if you got a leaky heart valve, exercise is still good for your heart.
Its why I’m starting to do this again because I’ve got too much to, I’ve
got too much to do in life for it to be over yet. Photo opportunity. Right. Well, been a nice ride anyway. makes a
change from being on the sports bike, as in motorbike I mean, not sports bike as in road cycle. But in its own way, even though I am
sort of doing 20 – 25 miles an hour, it’s still just as exciting as
like being on a big sports bike. Even though it’s nowhere near as fast.
Right! Back to the German wagen its coloured the same as a fire engine. It
sounds like one as well as it’s an SDI, but it’s just a runaround while I um sort
the Mini out. But maybe in the new year I’m going to get new car anyway. We’ll
see, what’s the point if this passes the MOT and it’s still solid. Got a whole brand
new bottom end. And there’s no rust on it. Bonnet could do with a polish as
the clearcoat has faded. Apart from that, it’s solid. What’s the point
in replacing it if it works? the other, about two months back, I did a
800 mile, no 840 mile round trip, it didn’t miss a beat, so as long as it passes the MOT
and it all works, solid and there’s no rust, you might as well just keep it and
it’s a classic almost now isn’t it really? the Mark 4’s weren’t well loved but
I think they’re starting to get more popular than they were.
Always begins with the GTI, doesn’t it? No one saves the SDI and things
like that, but I think it’s worth saving. I think its probably hit rock bottom
now. It’s only ever going to appreciate in value now if it’s kept in good order, isn’t it? It’s actually brilliant for roads around
here because you don’t have to worry about it getting scratched. You don’t have
to worry if you scrape a brush or it get muddy or you put mountain bike
in the back or anything like that. It’s the essence of car, isn’t it? Does its job. If I want to have fun and look nice. I
got the motorbike to do that. So, so you know. Anyway, thanks for watching folks. Hope you
enjoyed this one. It’s a bit different, isn’t it? But I guess it allows me to do more videos during
the winter, while uh, it allows me to do more videos through the winter while Lora is in the garage as
I’m not going to take her out in the winter. She’s just, you know, she’s a sports bike. It’s just too
dangerous. One patch of ice and, you know, a little too much throttle and that’s it, isn’t it? You’re
gone. So, I don’t know if it’s worth a risk and she’s a beautiful bike and brings me a lot of joy
and I don’t really want to ruin her by dropping her on or getting her covered in salt and all that
sort of thing. So, in the meantime, I bought this for doing the winter videos, but it also means I
can get out more in places that I’m not allowed to with powered transport, like we’ve just seen
today. So I can show you some of the things that I see when I’m walking that you don’t necessarily
see when I’m riding the motorbike. So in a way it’s a good thing. So I’ll have the mountain bike
for the winter videos and the beautiful blue ZX9R Lora, for the summer videos. So I call her Lora.
So I call this one Liza. So it’s Liza and Lora. So it’s like two girlies as I think all machines are
girls, aren’t they? They’ve got souls of females, I think. Maybe it’s just an engineering
thing. I don’t know. There you go. Anyway, I’ll stop waffling now. Thanks for watching,
guys. I’ve really enjoyed this. I hope you did too. I’ll see you next time. And thank you
for any likes, comments, subscribes, shares, and all that sort of business, they are all very
much appreciated. Thank you. Now I’m off to Dalmellington to go to the Co and get tea for
the night and then I’m going to settle down and edit this video for a while, have an early
night to get up early for work in the morning. Seat belt, it’s always a good thing, isn’t it? See what I mean? Colored like a
fire engine. Sounds like one, too.

This series isn’t a polished, silent POV ride. It’s my real journey getting back into cycling after more than ten years, while managing a heart condition and an autoimmune disease. That means you’ll hear breathing, pauses, and the effort it takes to rebuild fitness. If you’re looking for a serene, edit-heavy ride-along, this probably won’t be for you, but if you want to follow an honest recovery story on the forest trails around my area, you’re in the right place. Thanks for watching and supporting the journey!
