Hey Brain trust… riding today and switched from large front chain ring to small and chain came off. Got it on but the chain has lost all tension when in small front chain ring. B screw is all the way in. RD works ok. What could it be ?

RD is not ok
Does that derailer have a lockout of some kind? It may have been set somehow. Otherwise its supposed to be springing the cage backwards and it is not.

The spring inside the hinge between the cage and derailleur body isn’t springing properly. You may be able to replace it depending on the model – look up online to see if your derailleur has a removable/replaceable cage.
The derailleur’s clutch may need to be adjusted or serviced.
Probably a seized clutch, it has a switch, does that do anything?
