Hey everyone,
I used to own a Commencal Uptown MaxMax 29 – basically an oversized BMX / rigid MTB crossover. It had a super tough frame, rigid fork, single speed, and big slick 29” wheels. Honestly, it was the perfect bike for me: simple, fun, BMX-like handling but comfortable enough to ride around the city and commute.
I’m now moving to Western Australia and looking for something similar. Ideally:
-
Rigid fork (no suspension)
-
BMX / DJ style geometry
-
Big wheels (27.5–29")
-
Strong enough for street riding, but also practical for cruising/commuting
So far, I’ve seen things like the Fairdale Taj, SE Bikes Big Flyer / OM Duro, Cult 29", and some NS / Marin dirt jump frames, yet nothing seems quite right. I’m wondering if there are any other good modern options I should look into, especially ones I could actually get in Australia.
Any suggestions or experience with these kinds of bikes would be awesome.
Thanks!

Looks like a Kona Unit to me
You wanna take a bike with you, or get it there?
Maybe this, would be practical for cruising and commuting. I assume 🙂

Kona Unit or Surly Karate Monkey.
