French Runner Uses INSANE Tactics In Cross Country Championships

Something truly astonishing happened at a cross-country European championships. Ladies and gentlemen, a French runner at the very beginning of this decided that he was going to go all the way to the front. The other professional runners laughed at him and thought, “What on earth is this guy doing?” Another runner came up on the inside and almost shoved him. And the French guy got super annoyed that he started quite literally sprinting at the beginning of a 10k race. Just to put that into perspective, this guy’s got to run for half an hour and in the first 30 seconds he was flat out sprinting. He pretty much dropped everyone and the guys behind him are all professional runners from European champions, world champions, Olympians, record holders, you name it. This guy was miles ahead of them. This never ever happens in cross country. In fact, most of these championship races are in fact tactical, so they all run slow. But this guy was doing the absolute opposite of true tactical running. He was doing what I call insane tactics. In other words, ruining his own chances of winning the gold medal or the title. On paper, he’s nowhere near as fast as some of the guys behind him. So why on earth is he going out so hard? Because they’re just going to catch him. Adel Michelle of Spain catching him already. Three, four, and five team GB athletes all in the top 10. It was pretty crazy, like he was being chased down by a stampede. At 4 minutes in, it was pretty obvious the French guy wasn’t letting up. Some of the guys were even completely stretched out, if not totally dropped. These guys were starting to know that this person wasn’t actually joking. He was trying to run 4 and 1/2 minute mile pace on a cross country during subminus conditions and it was just impossible for even the greats to keep up. Eventually, his show ended in around 6 minutes where Dowi Griffiths of Team GB took over the pace. Now, this was a bit better as Dowi had paced himself for the first mile, although he would also end up ruining his own chances. And this was something I saw later on. Adele Michelle is following closely behind in second place. Andy Butch of Team GB, the French runner, is still there. You might notice, but he is really, really struggling right now. He was actually kind of annoyed that nobody went with him and now he’s actually been caught. I think he’s starting to realize that he ruined his chances of winning the gold medal. Now, that doesn’t mean that his chances are over as the race has only just begun. Technically, they’re only a quarter of the way through. Don’t forget this is 10 km. It’s the senior men’s European Cross Country Championships. Dowi Griffith, the runner who is currently leading, is a mountain running expert, actually from the valleys of Wales. This guy is such a good crosscountry runner, and when he is in top form, his fitness is nearly unstoppable. You might have just caught a glimpse of Henrik Inger Brixson, Yakabing Brixson’s older brother. He was also in this 10K, but he was pacing himself a lot slower and comes through later on around the final mile. Dowi Griffith was really pouring on the pace and I think this was his attempt to try and defeat everyone. The problem was it was just a bit crazy because even at 12 minutes he was still kind of in the lead. It just wasn’t enough. He hadn’t even made it to halfway and he was already trying to get himself to hit the wall. A lot of people say that in a marathon you can hit the wall. Well, you can also hit the wall in a shorter distance like a 10k. Andy Butch now took over and it was up to him to try and get this team up in the standings. At this moment in time, Team GB were currently leading the group standings with Andy Butchard, Dowi Griffith, and Ben Connor in the top four. However, Dowi Griffith this randomly pulling over with a hamstring issue disappointed everyone and meant that now team GB dropped back in the leaderboard standings. Another crazy thing that happened was that French dude that went out too fast just randomly appeared out of nowhere in the lead group. I genuinely couldn’t believe what was happening because I thought that he had ended up ruining his chances. Two of the Turkish runners had managed to increase their pace. one being called Osbellen and another being called Arakai. These guys were pacing themselves really well and was struggling to keep up, but knew there were still another three miles remaining. Andy Butchart was doing a fantastic job here, but he was in a lot of pain. It was pretty obvious that he was also not really one that wanted to lead, but he didn’t really have a choice because the pace had slowed a little bit and they didn’t want the other runners to actually catch them up as then it would make it difficult to actually win a medal. Remember, this is a European championships. These guys want the gold medal, the silver medal, and the bronze medal. Coming fourth for anything below that is just awful. No one wants to do that. So, they’re all trying to conserve their energy. Osbellen of Turkey, formerly born in Kenya, caught up with the leaders. Michelle was now leading this, the Spanish champion. He’s a tall runner and very strong looking. He seems to do really well in cross country, and I think it’s one of his favorite distances. Michelle was putting in some of the sprints, but it wasn’t enough to truly break down Osellen. Andy Butchart was starting to tire pretty badly and he did pretty much get completely dropped around 24 minutes. When they hit the five mile mark, they only had one mile remaining and Michelle was in a lot of pain. You can see that he’s recently gone through major injuries as he has blue tape on the outside of his legs. This is due to some kind of tendonitis issue or injuries to do with his career. It’s pretty difficult to tell unless he’s posted about it on his Instagram or his page. This was a major move that was made by Osbolan. 29 minutes, literally only 200 meters from the finish. Osbolan launched a lethal attack and it was enough to drop Michelle completely. The French runner was nowhere to be seen and the British runners were around about 20 seconds behind. It was good to see. Osbolen stormed through with a victory in just under 30 minutes. He managed to stay strong and maintain a good sprint finish towards the end. Michelle finished with the silver medal which he was actually really happy about. And uh yeah, you can see a pretty decent celebration by him. Annie Butchar finishing in third, getting the bronze medal and the French runner getting in fourth, just missing out on the medal. Now, something tells me that if he had paced himself at the beginning and not gone out like a madman, he could have potentially won even the gold medal. Think about all that extra energy he expended just trying to prove a point by going out way too fast over the first kilometer. I don’t know, maybe that’s just my opinion and no one of you actually agree with it, but comment down below what you actually think in the comment section below this video. 1. La peor narración que he oído en mi vida, horrible, no dice mas que tonterías que no se corresponden con lo que es la carrera, al final habla de corredoras cuando son hombres.

  2. The strategy is rare but not "insane" anyway!! Yuki Kawauchi, a Japanese elite runner, won the Boston Marathon in 2018!! And he also apply this method when running other races time after time!!

  3. There's no need to exaggerate with the commentary. Every runner is all business in a race, especially a championship. No one is laughing. Moreover, no one sprinted off the start. It's a typical fast start for a race of this distance, but no one is sprinting, not even close. There was a gap between the lead runner and the pack, but he didn't 'drop' them. Edit: No one runs slowly in a cross country race. Where did you even get that idea? It's nice that this was put together, but the commentary needs to be knowledgeable to the sport and match the actual events taking place.

  4. Having ran X-Country in High School you really do need to get out of that horde of runners. You have elbows swinging and it can be a tad dangerous in that mass start. I had another team's runner nearly spiking my foot due to how close they were, though only my shoe got spiked and not my foot.
