I'm cycling though Istria with a road bike right now and I'm wondering if the coastal road is ok. Heard some horror storys because of bad traffic. Any stops you recommend? Thinking of either doing porec or rovinj.
Istria is kind of shit for biking, either roads where cars go 100km/h, and you have countless trailers and RVs, or bike paths that are borderline hiking paths that in some countries would be a Via Ferrata.
But I would do it again over and over, just not on a road bike. If you ride not in the main season, the traffic might be better.

It is off (tourist) season, traffic is calm(er).
Observe the weather, it comes normally from (south)west.
