So I had planned to do the badger divide (Glasgow to Inverness mostly off-road). On the first day my pawls stopped engaging. So I had to go home and service the hub. I then planned a shorter trip over 2.5 days and thankfully the bike held it together. I’ve been planning a trip like this all summer but it took me a while to learn how to service an old bike and get time off work. Had such a great time. Will probably drop the panniers next time. Wanted to keep the build at a decent cost so used what I had to carry my stuff

  2. Love this so much mate. What a great build. Looks a perfect mix of style and performance. Nice and robust for the terrain. I’d love to do something like this but probably need to build up some of my camping gear as the stuff I’ve got at the moment is more focused on chucking it in a boot, so it’s not small enough to fit in a pannier haha!

What’s the reasons that you’d not take the panniers next time?

Also, how did you find doing that sort of distance on sweptback bars without a second hand position? I’m debating changing out to some sweptback bars but was then thinking maybe I’d need to add some bar ends that would give me a bit of freedom if my hands started to get numb.
