Hello! The issue is this…

The crankset is shimano non-boost 2x, supposed to be installed on the 73mm bb shell with a 2.5mm spacer on the drive side per shimano's instructions.

I put an extra 2.5mm spacer to bring it closer to a boost chainline (rear hub is boost) and the plastic safety plate wont clip in.

Does anyone have similar experience? Is this a broblem or should I move on?

Thanks!

  1. Spacers are not for adjusting chainline in fixed-spindle-length cranksets*. Buy a crankset of the appropriate chainline.

*In before someone says “If your shell is undersized you can use spacers to build it back up asymmetrically.”

*In before someone says “I do this all the time and it works.”

Just had an eureka moment. After some measuring with the crank off the bike i realised that the pin actually fits in the small crank spindle hole when the crank arms are spaced at 99mm apart (which is the case for this setup)

It is the rotation radius around the bolt that won’t let it go in so i removed the bolts, put the pin in the hole and then screwed the bolts back in.

The only thing that I have some doubts about is whether this 2.5mm reduction in spline engagement is going to be an issue in any way…
