Everyone is joking here, but I get your question and appreciate you actually considering your safety and the safety of those around you when riding. These double strap cages are designed to spread the pressure across a wider surface area. Since when you are mashing, you are exerting pressure on the top of the pedal platform, it is completely safe to pedal forward with a single strap on these cages. However, if you’re skid stopping, you reverse the physics and pull up on the strap. The increased pressure across the smaller area of the single strap will sever your foot.
