Got my first bike a month ago and don’t even know what all the parts are called so please bear with me. I was wiping some gunk off the chain with a paper towel while pedaling it backwards with my hand and noticed some resistance and that it was making a noise.

Looks like the chain partially came off of this bottom gear below the main cassette and is now bent at an angle and rubbing against the plastic cover. I’m assuming I probably pulled it out of place like an idiot because of the resistance from cleaning it with a dry paper towel.

What’s the best way to fix this? I tried to just push/move it back into place but it didn’t want to go and I didn’t want to force it and mess it up more.

Thanks in advance.

  1. I bet you pedaled backwards and the chain fell a couple cogs. Pedal it forward and it’ll reset
