Annecy is an alpine town in southeastern France, where Lake Annecy feeds into the Thiou River. It’s known for its Vieille Ville (old town), with cobbled streets, winding canals and pastel-colored houses. Overlooking the city, the medieval Château d’Annecy, once home to the Counts of Geneva, contains a museum with regional artifacts such as Alpine furniture and religious art, plus a natural history exhibit.

The Palais de l’Isle is a 12th-century castle on an island in the river Thiou
in Annecy’s administrative headquarters. It mostly served as a prison and courthouse until the French Revolution.
It again was a prison during World War II. The Palais de l’Isle was classified as a Historical Monument in 1900
and today houses a local history museum. Such a big portion! I’m going to try the famous raclette sandwich in Annecy. This sandwich typically features melted raclette cheese, known for its rich and creamy texture, combined with various ingredients like cured meats, pickles, and fresh bread. Raclette is a dish that originated in the Alps region between Switzerland and France,
and is thought to be over 400 years old. The castle was built between the 12th and 16th centuries. It served as the residence of the Counts of Geneva and later the Dukes of Genevois-Nemours, a branch of the House of Savoy. The Château d’Annecy showcases a blend of medieval defensive architecture and
Renaissance residential design. Today, the Château d’Annecy houses the Musée-Château d’Annecy, a museum that
presents exhibitions on regional history, art, and archaeology. According to sources, the Pont des Amours owes its name to the fact that
it was once a meeting place for prostitutes. A more romantic version says that the bridge was (and probably still) a place where lovers meet. Legend has it that if two lovers kiss on the bridge’s deck, they will be united for life. Lake Annecy is a perialpine lake in Haute-Savoie in France.
It is named after the city of Annecy, which marks the start of the Thiou, Lake Annecy’s outflow river. It is the third-largest lake in France if the French part of Lake Geneva,
which is shared between Switzerland and France, is excluded. It is a popular tourist destination known for its swimming and water sports. The lake was formed about 18,000 years ago, at the time the large alpine glaciers melted. It is fed by many small rivers from the surrounding mountains (Ire, Eau morte, Laudon, Bornette and Biolon) and a powerful underwater source, the Boubioz, at an 82-metre depth (269 ft).
