Hello everyone,
I removed the rear wheel from my fairly new Aeroad. The cassette with freewheel simply slipped off. The wheel was at DT Swiss due to a recall. What is the reason for this happening? Was the cassette possibly installed incorrectly? Can I simply put the cassette back on?

It appears that your cassette may have come off. This is common for some DT Swiss and Fulcrum wheels. You can probably just put it back on. Here is a relevant video for DT wheels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXJ2ao-Iq14

Many cassettes simply come off rather than being bolted on. You can just place it back on.
That’s not just the cassette it’s the whole freewheel driver. Just push it back on by finagling. It’s not a tight fit but a very precise one. Could be a bit frustrating.
The reason for this is so that you have easy access to the ratchet mechanism, the two silver rings, so that maintenance and upgrades are easier.
