Ladies and gentlemen…

I have quite a lot of free time, so, I present to you my dream bike in it's hopefully final form.

So here’s the deal: Some ages ago I scored this 2011 Specialized Enduro Comp in EXCEPTIONAL condition for dirt cheap. Like embarrasingly cheap. The seller swore up and down it was an outdated, old, supposedly "some useless grandpa bike".

Yeah… a grandpa bike with 160mm travel, tapered headtube, universal sizing all around and ISCG tabs. Sure thing, buddy 😂

I bought it relatively stock (only cosmetic upgrades). Out of the box it wasn’t bad for its time. RockShox Lyrik fork, Fox RP2 shock, 9-speed drivetrain, Avid Elixirs. Solid bones, but half the parts were either outdated or proprietary Specialized bullshit that made upgrading a nightmare… Miss me with that shit. 🙂

But my plan was clear; I wanted something I could ride hard and not give a fuck. My previous 3 bikes did not survive me. I knew this one would.

One by one, the “grandpa parts” came off: (Or just fucking blew up 😂)

  • Fox RP2 shock + weird specialized shit yoke? Gone. (Shock exploded but whatever) Replaced with a BikeYoke yoke and a Fox Float RPL. 200x57mm. Finally standard sizing!
  • Lyrik was pretty underwhelming. I put on some actual race suspension on it now. Hello BOS Deville 😀
  • DT Swiss wheels came out, in with some Nukeproof Generator AMs. If anything's gonna last forever on this bike, it's gonna be the rims 🙂
  • Tossed the 720mm stock bars for 780mm Protaper Answer DH bars.
  • Binned the triple chainrings for a 1×11 XT drivetrain with a OneUp oval ring because it's not 2011 anymore.
  • Added a KS Dropzone dropper because I don't want a cable actuated one, nor am I all about that "stop and lower your seat" life people have with other bikes from this generation 😂

And yeah, I kept the Avid Elixirs. They’re finicky, but they stop me. And they stop good. I know they piss you guys off 😁

What I’ve got now is like pretty unique. And quite a beautiful bike, I made sure to colour match everything down to even the dropper stanchion to the fork.

Avid elixirs were the best brakes I ever owned. I replaced them for an “upgrade” and regretted ever selling them. They would send me over the bars they stopped so well.

  2. Nice, that bike looks like a ton of fun. How is the BOS fork? What adjustments does it have? I still have a yeti sb66 and I set up a Banshee Run 26. The smaller wheels are soo much fun.

I love this. I have an old bike as well. I’ve been eyeballing some new ones but it’s hard to swallow the cost of new bikes these days.
